🌡️🚨 KOSCIUSKO COUNTY CERT – POST OF THE DAY 🚨🌫️
🔥 Heat + Smoke = A Day to Be Weather Aware! 🔥

If you've noticed the hazy skies today, you're not imagining it. Smoke from the Canadian wildfires has drifted into northern Indiana, and Kosciusko County is under an Air Quality Alert while temperatures are also climbing. Fine-particle pollution is expected to reach unhealthy levels, especially for children, older adults, and anyone with asthma, heart disease, or other respiratory conditions.

💨 Here's how to stay safe today:
☀️ Limit strenuous outdoor activities during the hottest part of the day.
😷 If you must be outside for extended periods and the smoke is bothersome, consider wearing a well-fitting N95 mask.
🏠 Keep windows and doors closed when possible and run your air conditioning on recirculate if available.
💧 Drink plenty of water—even if you don't feel thirsty!
👵 Check on elderly neighbors, family members, and anyone who may need extra help staying cool and breathing easier.
🚗 If visibility is reduced by smoke or haze, slow down and drive with caution.

🚑 CERT Tip of the Day:
Prepared communities are stronger communities! Keep a small emergency kit in your vehicle with water, a flashlight, a phone charger, and a few N95 masks. You never know when changing conditions will catch you off guard.

That is this Saturday, CERT Members please come out and help if you can.

A quick shout out to CERT - the Community Emergency Response Team. They operate under the Emergency Management Systems umbrella. They, under the direction of Gene Reed and Kip Shuter (Director of EMS), are a tremendous asset for our Rotary Tour des Lakes event.

They will be running our Roving SAG (Safety & Gear) and be available for the duration of the ride. We feel so good having them help keep our riders safe and make sure everyone has a good ride.

We are fortunate to have this asset available to us in Kosciusko County! If you are interested in becoming CERT certified they will have information available at the event.

The Kosciusko County Fair is in full swing, and with a Heat Advisory in effect, now is the perfect time to learn how to keep yourself and your family safe during extreme heat and other emergencies.
💧 Beat the Heat:
✅ Drink plenty of water.
✅ Take breaks in the shade or air conditioning.
✅ Wear light-colored, lightweight clothing.
✅ Check on neighbors, older adults, and pets.
✅ Know the signs of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.
