Tonight, we’d like to congratulate three of our own as they graduate from South Stokes High School. Kaden Passmore, Sara Bingman, and Izaiah Mabe have all been active members of South Stokes Fire & Rescue, and we’re proud to see them reach this milestone.

After graduation, Kaden will be joining the United States Marine Corps and continuing his commitment to serving others.

Sara recently completed her NC EMT class and plans to pursue a career in EMS. Her hard work and dedication have already been evident, and we know she’ll do great things in the field.

Izaiah is currently finishing his fire classes and plans to pursue a career in the fire service. We’re excited to watch him continue growing in the profession.

It’s always great to see young people choose careers centered around service to their communities and country. We couldn’t be more proud of these three and all they’ve accomplished so far.

Please join us in congratulating Kaden, Sara, and Izaiah on their graduation and wishing them the best as they begin the next chapter of their lives.

Congratulations, Class of 2026!

Today, we stop to honor and remember the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice to our country, here and abroad!

Memorial Day is more than a long weekend — it is a day of remembrance for the heroes who gave their lives protecting the freedoms we enjoy every day. Their courage, sacrifice, and dedication will never be forgotten.

As we gather with family and friends, please take a moment to reflect on those who never made it home and the families who continue to carry their memory.

From all of us at South Stokes Fire Department, we thank our fallen heroes and honor their legacy today and every day. 🇺🇸

As the weather warms up and cookout season kicks off, South Stokes Fire Department wants to remind everyone to stay safe while grilling this May! 🔥🍔

A few simple precautions can help prevent serious fires and injuries:

• Keep grills at least 3 feet away from homes, decks, and anything flammable
• Never leave a grill unattended while cooking
• Clean grease and buildup regularly
• Keep a fire extinguisher or water source nearby
• Make sure children and pets stay clear of hot grills

Let’s enjoy the season safely and protect our families, homes, and community.

A current active burn ban is in effect in North Carolina, prohibiting all outdoor burning, including the use of burn barrels, burn pits, and fires within designated containment lines.

Due to increased wildfire risk, the N.C. Forest Service has issued a ban on all open burning and has canceled all burning permits statewide effective 6 p.m. Saturday, March 28 until further notice.

Under North Carolina law, the ban prohibits all open burning in the affected counties, regardless of whether a permit was previously issued. The issuance of any new permits has also been suspended until the ban is lifted. Anyone violating the burn ban faces a $100 fine plus $183 court costs. Any person responsible for setting a fire may be liable for any expenses related to extinguishing the fire.

The burn ban does not apply to fires started within 100 feet of an occupied dwelling. The local fire marshal has authority to issue a burn ban within those 100 feet.
