supports the Surface Combat Systems Center located on the NASA Wallops Island Flight Facility. Housing units are located adjacent to the base outside the security gate and are still traditional Navy owned housing and are not PPV. The Housing Office has been consistently recognized as one of the top housing areas in the Navy. We have 14 units (five three BR, 4 four BR, 5 four plus BR) . Currently

there is a 12-16 month wait for possible assignment to Navy units. We have nine duplex units that consist of three and four bedroom units. There are five single family homes with five bedrooms. All units have a new screened rear porch and new, expanded back yard and new fencing. Exteriors have new roofs, siding, and landscaping. Interiors will have new paint schemes, new carpet in the bedrooms, Luxury vinyl flooring in the remaining living areas. Bathrooms have porcelain tile flooring with the tile extending up the walls and accent tiling as a cap. The kitchens have seen a big improvement as well with all new cabinetry, recessed lighting and new stainless steel Energy Star appliances including a double oven, microwave/exhaust, refrigerators with bottom freezers and solid surface countertops and backsplashes. All units also have new Energy Star HVAC systems installed. The average living space for a three bedroom unit is approximately 2200 sqft, 4 bedroom units have approximately 2600 sqft and the single family units will have over 3100 sqft of living space. For incoming families, application packages may be submitted to the Housing Office at any time once orders are received. If received prior to detachment from the sponsors current unit, the application will be placed on the Advanced Waiting List and will not be placed on the Active Waiting List until official detachment from the current unit. The control number (or placement on the Active Waiting List) is determined by the actual detachment date stamp on the orders. There is no temporary furnishings program within CONUS so if you expect a delay in shipment/arrival of your household goods, we can provide contact info for local business that rent furniture. You can view pictures and floor plans of our Skeeter Lane housing units on our page (Housing Service Center Wallops Island) under the photo album section. Rental costs in the area can range from approximately $1000 to $1800 per month depending on size and amenities. We are active in obtaining listings from the surrounding area and community properties are listed on our page under Navy Housing Service Center Wallops Island. Although rurally located, Wallops Island is by no means isolated. Local businesses include grocery stores, pharmacy's, restaurants, shopping and such. Local small medical/dental facilities are available and there are two hospitals within 40 mins of housing. Traffic is virtually non-existent and commutes are usually within 20 mins of the base if civilian housing is chosen. The inventory for civilian community rental properties is extremely limited. Current BAH rates are quite sufficient to find a great home for you and your family. Once you receive your hard copy orders and if you wish to apply for base housing, please submit an application package to the Installation Housing Director. This would include a copy of your orders, current Page 2 (Record of Emergency Data) and a housing application (DD-1746). No assignment to Navy housing can be offered until the member has officially detached from their current unit. Applications may be submitted to the Housing Office prior to detachment and when received will be placed on the Advanced Waiting List. Once you have officially detached from your current unit, notify the Housing Office as soon as possible to have your application activated and for placement on the Active Waiting List. You will be informed of your position at that time. Placement on either of the waiting list is not a guarantee of assignment. The Unaccompanied Housing Program was recently discontinued here at Wallops and we are no longer able to house single sailors or accommodate Geographic Bachelors. We are here to help you any way we and our mission is to make your move as smooth and stress free as possible. We are available at any time for questions that you may have. Any questions concerning assignment, eligibility, applications, etc., should be directed to Herm Rawlings, Installation Housing Director at 757-824-5381, email at [email protected] or stop by the office at 201 Skeeter Lane anytime. If you have orders to Wallops Island, please contact the Housing Office as soon as possible to discuss your housing options.
