It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of Charles “CJ” Ortega.

CJ was a proud and dedicated member of the Hempstead Volunteer Fire Department, where he selflessly served his community and stood ready to help others whenever he was needed. His commitment, bravery, and willingness to serve will never be forgotten.

This will be a conjoined memorial service honoring CJ, his brother Travis Morehead, and his nephew Ryan “Bear” Morehead, as their family and loved ones gather to remember and celebrate their lives together.

Please keep their family, friends, and CJ’s fire family in your thoughts and prayers during this incredibly difficult time.

Memorial services will be held on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, at McWilliams Funeral Home.
• Visitation: 9:00–10:00 a.m.
• Service: 10:00 a.m.

Rest easy, CJ. Thank you for your service, your sacrifice, and the impact you made on so many lives. 🖤🚒

Outage Update – Rolling Hills Subdivision
We have received several calls regarding blinking lights in the Rolling Hills Subdivision, just northeast of Hempstead. SBEC crews have been dispatched and are currently inspecting the line to determine the cause.

If repairs are needed, members in the area may experience a brief power interruption. We will continue to provide updates as we receive information from crews in the field. Thank you for your patience as we work to get this issue resolved.
