Who remembers the free GED tutoring that used to be held at the old Brinson Hill church? Maybe 20 years ago?

Fun fact: I wasn’t a resident of Wadley at that time, I was still a teen, a teen serving the community & citizens of Wadley with reading & writing. Fast forward almost 2 decades later & here I am one day away from the polls in that same community to serve as your city council woman with that same heart, passion, & willingness to serve!

Thank you to everyone who poured your heart, time, and energy into this movement. Your love and support created a rhythm of hope that will keep playing long after the campaign ends. 💙 Again, I’m deeply grateful for everyone who believed in the vision, volunteered, shared posts, or simply kept us in prayer. Georgia Law: Time Off Work to Vote 🗳️

Eligibility: You must be a qualified and registered voter✅
____________________________________

What the Law Says — (Georgia Code § 21-2-404) AKA “Affording Employees Time Off to Vote”

1. Amount of time off
Employers must allow up to 2 hours for an employee to take time off to vote. 

2. When this is required
• On Election Day for any municipal, county, state, or federal election. 
• Also applies during advance in-person voting days (i.e. early voting) as of July 1, 2023. 

3. Conditions when leave is not required
The employer does not have to grant time off if either:
• Your shift starts at least 2 hours after the polls open. 
• Or your shift ends at least 2 hours before the polls close. 

4. Employee notice
You have to give reasonable notice to your employer that you need this time off. 

5. Employer’s control
Your employer can specify what hours during the workday you’ll take that time (as long as it’s “reasonable”) so the business can maintain operations. 

6. Paid vs. unpaid
The law does not require that this leave be paid for all employees. Whether it’s paid depends on employer policy or whether you’re a public/state employee.

The form of government in which the city of Wadley operates is called : Strong-mayor system.

What does this mean?
-This means the mayor has broad powers to make executive decisions, propose budgets, oversee city departments, and sometimes veto council decisions.

City council role:
-Many important decisions (like passing laws, setting budgets, approving policies) require city council approval.

‼️‼️WHAT DOES THIS MEAN FOR CITIZENS IN THE UPCOMING ELECTION? 🗳️ ‼️‼️

This means your city is only as strong as your city council!
