Last week we also recognized and celebrated Marsha Walton on her retirement after more than 30 years of dedicated service to the Storey County School District, along with many additional years in education before joining SCSD. Throughout her career at Hillside, Marsha has served in many roles, including Early Childhood Special Education, Special Education, Kindergarten, First Grade, Second Grade, and Lead Teacher. Her impact reaches far beyond the classroom — many of her former students are now parents of current SCSD students, including Deputy Mike Simons. Marsha has been deeply committed to preserving the traditions and spirit of Hillside while building lasting connections between the school and our community. Her passion for students, teaching, and relationships has touched generations of families, and she will be greatly missed. On behalf of SCSD, thank you, Marsha, for your incredible career and dedication to our children and community.

Last week we honored and celebrated a remarkable teacher whose impact has reached far beyond the classroom. After 25 years of dedicated service at SCSD, Jen Willden is beginning a well-earned retirement.

For a quarter of a century, you have inspired students, supported colleagues, and helped shape countless lives through your patience, knowledge, and commitment to education.

Thank you for 25 years of service, dedication, and excellence. Congratulations on your retirement, and best wishes for a happy, healthy, and fulfilling next chapter!

Please help us celebrate Vee Peabody as our Employee of the Month for May! 🎉

Vee exemplifies what it means to be an outstanding teacher. She creates a positive and engaging learning environment where students feel valued, supported, and motivated to do their best. Through creative lessons and activities, she makes learning exciting while recognizing students for both achievement and effort. Vee maintains high expectations and helps students build the confidence they need to succeed.

Teaching two upper grades simultaneously is no easy task, yet Vee consistently devotes the extra time, planning, and energy necessary to help her students learn and grow.

Beyond her classroom responsibilities, Vee brings an extra boost of energy to Hillside Elementary through the many ways she supports students and staff. This year, she stepped in for the music teacher and helped present two student performances, giving students the joy and confidence that come from singing and performing on stage.

She also goes above and beyond in meaningful ways outside of instruction, including preparing and serving breakfast during high-stakes testing days for her students and students in other grades. Her thoughtful efforts help students feel appreciated, supported, and ready to succeed.

Your generosity and unwavering support provide students with opportunities that will have a lasting impact on their futures. We are especially thankful for the time, dedication, and care you continue to show toward Virginia City High School and its students year after year.

All proceeds will go directly to support our local VFW members here in Storey County ❤️
