Please join Fire Chief Ken Pravetz and Deputy Chief Amy Valdez in congratulating Fire Inspector Don Moss (VBFD Ret.) on an incredible 42 years of continuous public service.

Don dedicated 32 years to serving the Virginia Beach Fire Department as a firefighter. Following his retirement, he continued his commitment to the community by joining the Fire Marshal’s Office as a Fire Inspector, a role he has proudly served in for the past 10 years.

Thank you, Don, for your unwavering dedication, professionalism, and service to the Virginia Beach Fire Department and the citizens of Virginia Beach. Your commitment to protecting and serving our community is truly appreciated and serves as an inspiration to us all. Congratulations on this remarkable milestone! We look forward to continuing to work with you and your continued service.

From a VBFD active member. So my 8 year old grandson Greyson has been diagnosed with severe aplastic anemia recently. What this means is he will require a stem cell replacement (bone marrow transplant) in the very near future. He is currently at Duke Medical Center. Good news is that his 5 year old brother is a match and can be his donor. He will require chemotherapy first, then the transplant. This will require him to stay at Duke Medical Center in NC for at least 100 days. A go fund me has been set up to assist with the financial impact this will put on their family. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your help.

3 generations in the fire service. VBFD Master Firefighter (Grandfather) Tommy Martin, NNFD Probationary Firefighter (Grandson) Noah Martin and VBFD Captain (Father) Todd Martin. Noah graduated from the Newport News/James City Fire Departments Fire Academy on June 11, 2026. Congratulations Noah!
