A Busy Week for VB Mounted Patrol

This week, our unit was spread across Virginia Beach supporting a variety of events and patrol operations.

Some of our officers and horses participated in the Law Enforcement United Torch Run for Special Olympics, helping support an incredible cause and the amazing athletes who inspire us all. We also had the opportunity to attend the Judge Quick Picnic at LETA, spending time with members of our community and fellow public safety professionals.

Meanwhile, other members of our unit were busy patrolling the Virginia Beach Oceanfront, maintaining a visible presence and engaging with residents and visitors during the busy evening hours.

Whether supporting special events, community programs, or patrol operations, we’re proud to serve the City of Virginia Beach in so many different ways.

A Day of Fishing and Family at the Barn

Yesterday, we had the pleasure of hosting the 3rd Annual VBPD / VBPBA Fishing Derby for the children of Virginia Beach Police Department employees here at the Mounted Patrol barn.

It was a fantastic day filled with fishing, family fun, and plenty of smiles as the next generation of anglers cast their lines and enjoyed time outdoors. Events like these provide a great opportunity for our police family to come together and create lasting memories.

A special thank you to MPO J. Massey for organizing and coordinating another successful event. Your hard work and dedication continue to make this tradition possible for so many families.

Thank you to everyone who attended and helped make the day a success. We’re already looking forward to next year! 🎣💙

In Loving Memory of Jusino

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the loss of our beloved mount, Jusino, affectionately known to all of us as “JJ.”

JJ joined the Virginia Beach Mounted Patrol in 2015 through the Horses and Heroes Foundation and was named in honor of Massachusetts Police Officer John Jusino. From the moment he arrived at our barn, JJ quickly became far more than just a patrol horse, he became a trusted partner, patient teacher, and loyal friend to so many within our unit.

Over the years, JJ faithfully served the City of Virginia Beach through patrol, community events, training, and outreach. Beyond his work in Mounted Patrol, he also played a special role in both our Equi-Heroes Program and with Equi-Kids, where his gentle nature and steady presence touched countless lives.

JJ had a way of leaving an impression on everyone he met. Whether he was carrying an officer on patrol, helping teach a new rider, or quietly comforting someone during a therapy session, he did it with heart, patience, and grace.

He will be deeply missed by our unit, our volunteers, our community partners, and the many citizens who came to know and love him over the years.

Run free, JJ. Thank you for your years of service, friendship, and unwavering heart.

VBFD Life Safety Homeschool Day

Tuesday, Lilly, Grayson, and Allie attended the 2026 VBFD Life Safety Homeschool Day, joining our partners at the Virginia Beach Fire Department for a day focused on education, safety, and community engagement.

Students had the opportunity to learn more about emergency services, meet first responders, and get an up-close look at the unique role Mounted Patrol plays in public safety.

We always enjoy opportunities like this to connect with local families and help make learning interactive and memorable.

On Saturday, Apollo, Allie, Titan, Sheldon, and Grayson were out at Mount Trashmore for the Rising Sun Pow Wow, spending the day connecting with the community and enjoying a beautiful event filled with culture, tradition, and fellowship.

Our horses always enjoy meeting new people, and events like these are a great opportunity for us to engage with the community in a positive and meaningful way.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by to say hello to the horses and chat with the unit throughout the day!

NAPEC Obstacle Course Success!

While attending the NAPEC 2026 Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Training Week, Lilly and MPO Conner earned 2nd Place in an obstacle course competition!

Teaming up with Lacey and Sheryl Anderson from the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Posse in Florida, the team worked through a challenging course that tested communication, precision, horsemanship, and trust between horse and rider.

We’re proud of Lilly and grateful for the opportunity to work alongside such talented riders from across the country. Events like these highlight the teamwork, training, and partnerships that make the mounted community so special.

A Week of Training, Tradition, and Remembrance

Last week, members of the Virginia Beach Mounted Patrol traveled to Washington, D.C. to participate in the NAPEC 2026 Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Training Week alongside mounted units from across North America.

Throughout the week, officers and horses trained in a variety of mounted disciplines and practical scenarios designed to strengthen communication, coordination, and readiness in real-world environments. The opportunity to train with so many experienced mounted units allowed for valuable learning, collaboration, and the exchange of knowledge between agencies.

Most importantly, the week served as an opportunity to honor the memory of the law enforcement officers who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to their communities. Participating during National Police Week, surrounded by fellow officers who share the same mission and commitment to service, was a tremendous honor for our unit.

We are proud to represent Virginia Beach and thankful for the opportunity to continue learning, training, and standing alongside the mounted law enforcement community.

Enjoy the videos and music you love, upload original content, and share it all with friends, family, and the world on YouTube.
