Topic: POLLINATORS
Most beekeepers, including our May speaker Ken Lord, are drawn to the beauty of nature and fundamental necessity of all pollinators, be it native bees, butterflies, bats, etc., and of course the honey bee. What started as having fun with his son, exploring the interesting food and beverages created with honey, blossomed into an obsession. Ken cannot read or talk enough about honey bees and our relationship in caring for them.

Ken Lord is a hobby beekeeper and board member of the Southern Tier Beekeepers Association. His passion is to promote beekeeping education, hive pest treatment, hive monitoring and best practices while encouraging and mentoring new beekeepers.

Shindagin Hollow (a local State Forest) is extra beautiful in May and Colleen will be a leading field trip out there on Friday May 8th, weather permitting, when the butterflies are flying and the wildflowers are blooming. Warblers are arriving as well.

We are targeting: Early Hairstreak, West Virginia White, and Canadian Tiger Swallowtail, but there are likely several other species if it is sunny. We get some spring day flying moths there as well.
