National Gun Violence Awareness Day

Today, we join communities across the nation in recognizing National Gun Violence Awareness Day and honoring the lives that have been impacted by gun violence.

At Hampton County Sheriff’s Office, we remain committed to promoting public safety, supporting victims and their families, and working alongside our community to reduce violence through education, prevention, and enforcement.

Gun violence affects families, neighborhoods, and entire communities. By working together, staying engaged, and reporting suspicious or criminal activity, we can help create a safer future for everyone.

Sheriff Russell states, “Gun violence affects communities of every size, and Hampton County is no exception. Every act of violence leaves a lasting impact on families, friends, and neighbors. As your Sheriff, I remain committed to proactive law enforcement, strong community partnerships, and investing in our youth as we work to reduce violence and keep our communities safe. Public safety will continue to be a priority for the Hampton County Sheriff’s Office, and we will not stop working to make Hampton County a place where families can live, work, and thrive.”

This week, our School Resource Officers had the opportunity to attend the Hampton County School District End-of-Year Staff Celebration as the district recognized the dedication and hard work of its employees throughout the school year.

Our SROs are grateful for the partnerships they share with our superintendent, school administrators, teachers, staff, students, and families across Hampton County. Together, we work each day to create safe, supportive learning environments where students can succeed.

As another school year comes to a close, we want to thank the Hampton County School District for its continued collaboration and commitment to the students of our community. Last evening, Sheriff Russell and the Hampton County Sheriff’s Office proudly hosted our 4th Annual Pastors Forum. The evening was centered on faith, fellowship, collaboration, and keeping pastors and community leaders informed about important issues impacting Hampton County.

We extend our sincere appreciation to all pastors, church leaders, community partners, presenters, and guests who joined us for an event focused on unity, preparedness, leadership, and community engagement.

Thank you to Tom Watson with Hampton County Emergency Management Services for providing an informative Hurricane Preparedness Presentation, and Heather Bruemmer of Impact Through Collaboration for presenting valuable information regarding the community newsletter initiative and collaborative outreach efforts.

A very special thank you to Sheriff Eugene Brantley of the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office for returning home to Hampton County to be a part of this important event. Sheriff Brantley expressed his love for his hometown here in Hampton County and shared valuable insight on effective leadership and community partnership. His willingness to collaborate with Sheriff Russell reflects a shared commitment to continuing to move Hampton County forward. We also appreciate Sheriff Brantley for bringing members of his team from the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office to join in the fellowship.

Sheriff Russell also shared words of encouragement and emphasized the importance of continued partnerships between law enforcement, faith leaders, and the community.

We look forward to hosting another Pastors Forum later this year as we continue to strengthen relationships, share information, and work together for the betterment of Hampton County. Stay tuned for additional details.

Sheriff Russell, along with members of his Command Staff, attended a luncheon yesterday with Sheriff Malphrus and members of the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office Command Staff, as well as Sheriff McDuffie and Command Staff from the Effingham County Sheriff’s Office.

The luncheon provided an opportunity for agency leadership to strengthen professional relationships, discuss shared goals, and continue fostering strong regional partnerships in law enforcement. Discussions also included coordination and communication efforts regarding the Stokes Bluff area, where Hampton, Jasper, and Effingham counties intersect and where agencies may respond together during incidents requiring multi-agency assistance.

Collaboration among neighboring agencies remains essential in enhancing public safety and ensuring the continued protection of the citizens we serve.

Recently, Deputy Brown and Deputy McClay had the opportunity to visit Hampton Early Learning Academy for Career Day and spent time with some of our youngest community members. During the visit, the deputies spoke with the children about the importance of listening to their parents and teachers, behaving, making good choices, and doing well in school.

The children also enjoyed learning about law enforcement and getting a closer look at some of the equipment our deputies use each day. Moments like these help build positive relationships and encourage our youth at an early age.

Sheriff Russell continues to emphasize to his deputies the importance of investing in the youth of our community and building positive relationships even at an early age. Through opportunities like these, the Hampton County Sheriff’s Office remains committed to being present, engaged, and involved with the next generation.

We would like to thank the staff at Hampton Early Learning Academy for inviting the Hampton County Sheriff’s Office to be part of such a special morning!
