A huge thank you to Senator Fred Love who was our guest speaker at our June meeting last night. Senator Love is the Democratic nominee to be the next governor of Arkansas, and with our help, we can take back the executive. He shared his plans on education, healthcare, and economic growth; he wants to empower the working class not the rich, to grow our state. When elected, he plans to dismantle the parts of the Learns Act that funnel hundreds of millions of dollars to private schools as well as stop tax cuts to the wealthy and corporations and instead give them to Arkansans that need them most.

Yesterday the US Senate effectively killed the SAVE Act after multiple failed attempts to pass it. Yesterday's defeat occurred when an amendment to attach the voting bill to a party-line funding package was blocked in a 48-50 vote. During this vote, four Republican Senators (Susan Collins, Lisa Murkowski, Mitch McConnell, and Thom Tillis) crossed party lines to join all Democrats in defeating the measure.

Our thoughts are with Crawford County Sheriff's Deputy Gaines this morning after he rushed into a house fire and heroically tried to save one of its occupants. We hope for a speedy recovery.
