The planned closure of the Carqinez Bridge / Westbound I-80 is this weekend, from 10pm on Friday 8/21 to 3am early Monday morning 8/24. Caltrans will be replacing and repaving the asphalt on the bridge.

Please plan ahead and help spread the word. If you do need to travel south to Contra Costa County from Vallejo, Caltrans has posted detour routes that utilize Highway 680 and the Benicia-Martinez bridge. For those traveling to San Francisco, San Francisco Bay Ferry will be providing additional ferry service on Saturday and Sunday.

The closure will be only in the westbound direction (traveling south from Vallejo to Crockett). The eastbound direction entering Vallejo will remain open.

The Vallejo City Unified School District back to school event is underway, and it's amazing! The free soccer balls went fast, but there are still a few backpacks, plus community resources and the opportunity to explore Loma Vista Farm and meet the alpacas and other animals. The event runs until 2pm.

As summer has progressed, so has construction on Sonoma Blvd.

Caltrans District 4 - Bay Area is doing a complete overhaul of the 6-mile stretch of Highway 29 through Vallejo, and you've likely experienced the disruptions from curb ramp installations all along the highway. The next step will be paving which will begin next month.

Please exercise caution as these improvements progress - the outcome will be worth the wait, with full paving, ADA complaint curb ramps, bike lanes, and traffic calming.

Weather permitting, the project is anticipated to be completed in late 2026 or early 2027.

And we're not done - this is just one of many projects our city has lined up to make our streets safer and smoother.

This Sunday, August 2, the SolTrans systemwide redesign will take effect, with route changes and updated signage. Please help spread the word to anyone who rides the bus, both local routes and the regional Solano Express service which connects Solano County to BART and San Francisco.

I want to once again thank the SolTrans team for the 2+ years of work they put into the outreach, planning, and implementation of these changes, which help improve the agency's fiscal sustainability while maintaining quality transit options for riders. In particular, the work they did conducting outreach and responding to rider feedback and community input was exceptional. Although there are tradeoffs and some routes are reduced or eliminated, our community will see overall improvements in frequency and access.

The Vallejo City Council, along with Interim City Manager Harry Black, will hold a goal setting workshop this Saturday, July 25, from 9am to 5pm at the Masonic Event Center. The workshop is open to the public and community members are encouraged to join and share input.

This is an opportunity to discuss our shared vision for our city and determine priorities for the coming year. These conversations are especially critical as we work to address the structural budget deficit while maximizing the impact of our limited resources.

Please join us as we work together to move our city forward.

We kicked off 707 Day on Tuesday with the ribbon cutting for the SR37 Fairgrounds Drive diverging diamond interchange - a celebration full of joy, community pride, and gratitude.

In addition to providing quicker and safer access to Six Flags and the Solano County Fairgrounds, this interchange most directly impacts residents of the Country Club Crest, who cut the ribbon and hosted a community block party after the ceremony. A huge thanks to Mac Mall for joining alongside youth from Boys and Girls Empowerment Group and Healthy Vallejo.

We were joined by Congressman John Garamendi, elected officials from throughout the county, and the teams from Caltrans and Solano Transportation Authority who made the project possible. The new traffic pattern (which debuted in May) has already shown positive results - easing congestion and improving safety for those traveling by car, bike, and on foot.

Vallejo's electeds went straight from the event to Mare Island, where Congressman Garamendi presented a check to Vallejo Flood and Wastewater for the $1.1 million congressional appropriation which is funding public infrastructure improvements on the island.

That afternoon I also had the honor of joining a community resource fair organized by Disabled American Veterans of Vallejo. A huge thank you to all who contributed to that event.

There are several more events planned for 707 Week - please visit 707week.com for a full list. Thanks to all the organizers, participating businesses and community partners.

It's the 4th of July in Vallejo, which means we have a parade rolling through downtown, Joey Chestnut representing at the Nathan's hot dog eating contest, and a drone show on Mare Island this evening.

As America celebrates its 250th and California and Vallejo mark our 175th, it's an opportunity to reflect on our values and the power of people when we come together. Our patriotism is one that is inclusive, multicultural, and constantly strives against injustice and towards a more perfect union.

Happy 4th to everyone and thanks to those who came out this morning. I was thrilled to ride in the parade in a City of Vallejo public works truck and want to again thank our city workers who make these events possible!

¡Saludos desde Ensenada, la ciudad hermana más nueva de Vallejo!

Vallejo and Ensenada officially became Sister Cities in 2024, and over the past few days I've had the privilege of visiting the beautiful city and meeting with local leaders including the city's first woman Mayor, Presidenta Municipal Claudia Agatón.

The Vallejo delegation included Sister City commissioners, a performance group from La MaestraYajaira MoonAzteca, and a team from the Coach Sarna League .

The highlight was the unveiling of a beautiful mural in Ensenada's Civic and Cultural Center designed by local youth and depicting Vallejo landmarks as a representation of the friendship and bonds between our two cities.

We also brought their team a "Taste of Vallejo" gift basket that included local products from Anchor Pantry and the Vallejo Museum, Moschetti coffee, my personal favorite Pista Pils from Mare Island Brewing featuring art by Niki Toney, and (to coincide with the World Cup) Vallejo-Mexico shirts from Momo's. Thank you to our local businesses for helping us represent!

My heart is full of gratitude as we look ahead to a strong and meaningful partnership between our cities.

It was an absolute pleasure to join the Mayor of Ensenada and local leaders for the unveiling of a beautiful mural in Ensenada's Civic and Cultural Center. Designed and painted by local youth, the mural symbolizes the friendship and partnership between our Sister Cities.
