We thought our friends would enjoy taking a look at this informative, beautiful website about trees at Utica's historic Frederick T. Proctor Park. It was cfreated by Professor Brian Judycki of Mohawk Valley Community College based on research he and his students did at the park with the help of a NY State Department of Environmental Conservation Urban Forestry Grant. We were particularly impressed to find that the tallest tree in the park measures 115 feet and that there are 72 different types of trees there!
The number of trees cited on this website represent trees located within ten feet of a trail--which means it counts a large number but not all of the trees (and by the way, to answer a question we hear all the time, those round silver tags on the trees in the park were put there as part of the tree inventory, which Professor Judycki and his students carried out there several years ago to gather the findings on this website).
Take a few minutes, scroll through, and be informed!
