Visit the Lobby at the Oak Park Public Library where we have a display of artifacts celebrating Asian, Pacific Islander, and Desi American Heritage Month—on view until May 30 from community members: Mary Grace Bertulfo, Samina Hadi-Tabassum, and Lourdes Nichols honoring the rich cultures, histories, and contributions of East Asian, South Asian, Southeast Asian, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander communities in the United States.

View a PowerPoint presentation highlighting APIDA activists and their impact on American history on the lobby screen, near the display.

The Main Library Gallery is awash in color and intricate stitching right now!

The RiverSong exhibit, curated by Oak Park artist Lindsay Olson, is a collection of quilts by members of the Studio Art Quilt Associates, Inc. Illinois and Wisconsin region. Each quilt explores aspects of the Mississippi River Basin, the vast and intricate watershed that spans one-third of North America.

These few photos don't do justice, so come see the full collection through June 27, and join a reception and gallery talk on June 4.

“My goal has always been to make yoga more accessible for people and to teach in ‘unconventional’ spaces to help more people have access."

DuShaun Branch (Sage Gawd Collective) teaches virtual Chair Yoga classes for our library every Tuesday afternoon. Here she is with some of her students, meeting up in person last fall at the Main Library!

Read more about DuShaun's approach to yoga, and get the link to register for upcoming classes, at our link in the comments.

New pop-up library at Lilies & Spikes, Kids and Teens Hair Salon and Spa!

This longtime Oak Park hair salon for kids and teens moved to 717 South Blvd. last year, across from the Green Line station at Oak Park Avenue. In addition to many diverse titles about hairstyles and cuts, our pop-up library collaboration offers books about trains and construction, plus local authors and illustrators, for families to browse and read while waiting or getting styled!

Pick up the latest issue of our library's magazine, Storyline, at all library locations now.

The cover features a piece from the upcoming exhibit "RiverSong" by the Studio Art Quilt Associates, Inc. You can read more about the show and its curator, Oak Parker Lindsay Olson, inside!

We also have a feature with DuShaunBranch (Sage Gawd Collective), who leads virtual Chair Yoga sessions every Tuesday afternoon, and a spotlight on the high schoolers in the Lights, Camera, Community program.

Plus, we drop in on the monthly Older Adult Coffee Hour and talk to some of the great folks who participate, with photos by Tina Harle Photography.
