Brooke D'Sousa: Sandy City Council At-Large Candidate for Sandy City Council At-Large. Brooke's knowledge of the city sets her apart from others.

Brooke D’Sousa is a long-time Sandy resident, small business owner, and community volunteer. Brooke and her husband have raised their three children to enjoy Sandy's quality neighborhoods, open space, and sense of community. She is running for city council to ensure future generations have that same opportunity. Brooke has regularly attended City Council meetings, taken city trainings, and served

on city focus groups, which has given her a comprehensive understanding of the complex issues the city must work to resolve both now and in the future. She will bring her track-record of fiscal responsibility to the City Council to ensure we can thrive without putting an extra burden on taxpayers. Brooke volunteers all over our community, from planting flowers on Sandy Beautification Day to helping with the annual Healing Field flag display, in support of our shared community values. Brooke D’Sousa isn’t afraid to tackle the issues facing Sandy’s infrastructure, growth, and economy. She strongly believes in balancing future needs while preserving all that we love about Sandy. Brooke always searches for the best solution through information and data gathering, discussion and collaboration, with all viewpoints thoughtfully considered. The tentative budget was presented tonight, which means the Council’s budget deliberations begin.

This is where the public process matters most.

In our form of government, the roles of Mayor and Council are very different. The Mayor proposes an operating budget. The Council reviews it, asks questions, solicits feedback from residents, sets the policy direction, and ultimately decides what the final budget will be.

That is not conflict. That is the process working as intended.

A city budget is more than numbers on a page. It reflects our priorities: public safety, roads, infrastructure, parks, staffing, services such as bulk waste pickup, affordability, and long-term financial responsibility.

Council members should not be pressured, threatened, or framed as difficult simply for taking that responsibility seriously.

I know some would rather turn a procedural disagreement into a public spectacle. But leadership is not about creating drama and then inviting people to watch it. Leadership is staying focused on the work.

There may be distractions along the way, but my focus will remain where it belongs: carefully reviewing a nearly $200 million budget and making sure the final version reflects the needs and priorities of Sandy residents.

Today I had the pleasure of attending the Utah League of Cities and Towns training for newly elected officials…or in my case, re-elected…because I’m a sucker for continuing education and, let’s be honest, good governance doesn’t just happen. You actually have to learn stuff 😂

Five hours of municipal powers and duties…all made possible by Diet Coke (with pebble ice 🙌) and a handful of Hot Tamales🥤🔥

I met a whole mix of newly elected counterparts from Salt Lake, Erda, Hideout, and many, many more cities across the state, plus a few re-elected officials who also appreciate brushing up on the basics. Always fun to put faces to names, compare notes, and reassure each other that yes…this is a lot, but we’re not alone and we can lean on each other. Good relationships really are at the heart of good governance, and luckily for me, making new friends is kind of my thing.

A solid day of remembering the fundamentals, learning a few new tricks, and building the connections 😄🏛️💙

🧡 Happy Thanksgiving 🦃 🍽

This morning, before the turkey and the pie, we laced up our shoes and joined our community at the Utah Food Bank’s Human Race right here in Sandy, a tradition our family has kept every Thanksgiving for many years now.

Today felt especially meaningful. This year, participation nearly doubled from last year, with more than 6,000 runners all coming together to support neighbors who may be facing food insecurity this holiday season. Every step taken today helps provide meals for families, seniors, children, and individuals across Utah who truly need the support of the Food Bank…not just today, but all year long.

Moments like this are a powerful reminder of why I believe so deeply in public service. At its heart, it’s simply people helping people, showing up, giving back, and lifting one another when it matters most.

Today I’m especially grateful for family, for community, for our city’s first responders who helped make this event possible, and for the opportunity to serve in ways both big and small.

Wishing you and yours a Thanksgiving filled with warmth, reflection, and gratitude. 🤍

As the council appointed liaison to the Council of Governments, I attended the quarterly meeting earlier this week which brought together elected leaders from across the region to discuss one of the most pressing issues of the season: how we prepare for winter and protect our most vulnerable residents during extreme cold.

I’m grateful to sit at the table with so many dedicated mayors and council colleagues from neighboring cities as we review the regional Winter Response Plan, talk through “code blue” conditions, and coordinate resources to ensure no one is left without options when temperatures drop. These conversations aren’t always easy, but they are necessary, and they’re most impactful when we approach them collaboratively, city to city, with a shared commitment to serving people.

Thank you to everyone who contributes their time, expertise, and compassion to this work. I’m proud to represent Sandy and to be part of a team that’s willing to roll up our sleeves and plan ahead so our communities stay safe, warm, and supported throughout the coldest months.

It’s that time of year again… when I break out my finest hairnet and lean fully into my “lunch lady era.” 😄🥧

Today I had the privilege of serving 150 Thanksgiving meals at the Sandy Senior Center today alongside my council colleague Cyndi Sharkey, members of our amazing Police and Fire departments, and the Senior Center Advisory Council.

We shared countless smiles, and filled the room with laughter, gratitude, and the best kind of community spirit. I’m so grateful for the staff and volunteers who make events like this so special. ❤️

Hi 👋 , my name is Brooke and…I’m a quilter.
(Everyone in the room: Hi Brooke!)

Now that the election whirlwind has finally calmed down, I’m back to nurturing my inner 80-year-old lady — the one who loves a good coupon, hoards pretty fabric like it’s the Great Depression all over again, brings a sweater everywhere, and loves a good garden chat…especially about tomatoes and super hot peppers 👩‍🌾 🍅 🌶️

This is my Around the World quilt by Whole Circle Studio - a collection of luggage-tag blocks featuring iconic landmarks from cities around the globe. Basically the closest I’ve gotten to international travel lately… unless you count Costco on a Saturday.

I’m reclaiming some creative time, and finishing this quilt top is officially next on my list.
Let’s see if I make it around the world before I get distracted by another project. ✈️🧵💚

I want to express my deepest gratitude to the residents and voters who placed their trust in me to continue serving as your At-Large City Council Member for another four years. Your confidence in my ability to lead and represent our city means the world to me. I’m thankful for every resident who took the time to engage, ask questions, volunteer, or vote.

With a record breaking 15,625 votes, representing 67% of the total votes cast, I’m truly humbled by the opportunity to continue building on the progress we’ve made together.

To my opponent, Evan Tobin, thank you for your campaign and your willingness to serve. Democracy only works when people participate in the process.

I look forward to working alongside my new council colleagues as we continue moving Sandy forward together. Our best days are ahead, and I’m honored to help shape them with you.

Sandy Club Families-
If you are currently experiencing food insecurity or will be losing SNAP benefits, please visit our pantry. We are fully stocked and will try to support you in any way we can. We have information available for larger food pantries and the Utah Food Bank.

If you would like to support our pantry, we are always in need of gift cards and cash donations via Venmo or a link on our website. Gift cards in any amount ($10-$25) help our families get the fresh items we cannot store such as milk, eggs and bread.
