League of Women Voters of Indianapolis

League of Women Voters of Indianapolis The League of Women Voters is where hands-on work to safeguard democracy leads to civic improvement. We influence public policy through education and advocacy.

The League of Women Voters of Indy is a nonpartisan grassroots organization that encourages informed and active participation in government. We never support or oppose any political party or candidate. We have two separate and distinct roles: to educate the public about elections, issues and the voting process; and to advocate through a nonpartisan lens, for policies that improve the everyday lives of Indianapolis residents. To learn more about a candidate in your area visit Vote411.org.

🎓 Graduation season is here, and there’s one more important milestone for the graduates in your life: registering to vote!

According to the Civics Center, fewer than half of 18-year-olds in the U.S. were registered to vote in 2024. With primary elections and the midterms approaching, now is the perfect time to help young voters make their voices heard.

Send a recent graduate one of the League’s ready-made postcards and remind them that voting is one of the most powerful ways to shape their future.

This week, we celebrate the birthday and legacy of May Wright Sewall — a woman whose impact on Indianapolis and the national women’s suffrage movement still resonates today.

A teacher, activist, peace advocate, and civic organizer, Sewall helped found the Indianapolis Woman’s Club and the Indianapolis Equal Suffrage Society, while also shaping institutions that continue to influence our city. Though she died just one month before the ratification of the 19th Amendment, her decades of advocacy helped pave the way for women’s right to vote.

As members of the League of Women Voters, we honor the women who fought to expand democracy and civic participation — and recommit ourselves to protecting that legacy today.

This week is Period Poverty Awareness Week — and in Indiana, the problem is impossible to ignore.

One in 4 Hoosiers experience period poverty, struggling to afford basic period products.

And to make it worse, Indiana is one of only 18 states still taxing these products!

Tell lawmakers: It’s time for a change. Sign the petition at our link in bio.
