League of Women Voters of Howard County We are a non-partisan, multi-issue, grassroots organization whose mission is to encourage the informed and active participation of citizens in government.

The League shall not support or oppose any political party or any candidate. The League of Women Voters of Howard County (LWVHC) is a local branch of the League of Women Voters of Maryland and the League of Women Voters of the United States. We are a non-partisan, multi-issue, grassroots organization whose mission is to encourage the informed and active participation of citizens in local, state, and federal government and to influence public policy through education and advocacy. The League is committed to community issues at every level of government. We encourage anyone of voting age to join us!

The LWV Day of Action today commemorates the signing of the Voting Rights Act on August 6, 1965. How are you observing?

The Voting Rights Act was signed on 8/8/65. This action, born from years of struggle for voting rights in the face of white supremacist terrorism, is widely considered to be the single most important step towards making our country an inclusive, multi-racial democracy.
