In the November 3 election, Independence voters will have opportunity to consider two special questions to replace and renew citywide retailers’ sales taxes to support future infrastructure and quality of life improvements.
The proposal would NOT increase the City’s existing total sales tax rate but calls for a 1% General Purpose Sales Tax beginning in October 2028 to replace the existing Educational Sales Tax; and a 1% Special Purpose Sales Tax – a renewal of the current tax – to run for another 10-year period, 2032-2042.
