Coming soon in spring 2027 is the MLK Park Pedestrian Bridge connecting communities on the north and south banks of Brush Creek! This bridge will allow everyone to safely reach the playground and tennis courts.

🪏 Join us in celebrating the Groundbreaking: MLK Park Pedestrian Bridge on Wednesday, September 9 at 2 PM!

U.S. Representative Emanuel Cleaver, II (D-MO) secured $2.8 million in Community Project Funding to help fund a pedestrian bridge connecting communities on the north and south banks of Brush Creek and allow pedestrians to safely reach the playground in MLK Jr. Park.

💛 Kansas City is going GOLD! 💛

The fountain at Mill Creek Park will be dyed gold all weekend in honor of Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, sponsored by Braden’s Hope for Childhood Cancer.

Gold is the color of childhood cancer awareness, serving as a symbol of hope, strength and solidarity for children and families facing cancer. The fountain will remain gold until September 8. 💛

Join us in shining a light on childhood cancer and honoring all the brave Hope Heroes and their families. Together, we can Go Gold for Childhood Cancer!

🥽 Get your last swim in for the summer this weekend! Outdoor aquatic facilities close Monday, September 7.

Don't worry, you can still swim year-round at our indoor pools!
Be sure to call ahead and verify the pool is open before coming to the center. We try our best to maintain these hours, but emergency closings can happen.

♻️ We diverted over 9,500 pounds of waste from the landfill thanks to the AMAZING work of our KC Parks Ambassadors and Jacob Chapman from Moose Paw Farm at the 2026 Ethnic Enrichment Festival!

2026 Stats:
- 6,560 lbs/3.2 tons of waste for compost
- 2,560 lbs/1.5 tons of mixed recycling
- 405 lbs of glass for recycling
- 57 lbs of aluminum cans for recycling
- Educated countless festival goers about landfill waste reduction.

In total, that’s 9,582 pounds/4.8 tons of festival waste that was kept out of the landfill!
