Join us for a FREE upcoming training! Monday, October 19, 5:30 - 7:30pm at the Children's Home office in Saint Paul, MN. Dinner will be provided.

W.I.S.E. Up!® is an empowerment program designed to help children ages 8-12 in adoptive, foster and kinship families respond to curious, intrusive or insensitive questions with confidence.

“Why don’t you look like your parents?”
“How much did you cost?”
“Where are your real parents?”

W.I.S.E. Up! gives kids practical language and simple strategies to decide when to walk away, avoid the question, share selectively or educate others — while staying in control of their own story.

Hi! My name is Natalie. I am 35 years old and live in Roseville, MN. Although I live alone, I am very close to my family. I am an elementary school teacher who loves to bake, read, and go to the theater. I cannot wait to be a parent and welcome a child into my family through adoption.

September is Kinship Foster Care Month! 💜

This month, we honor the grandparents, aunts, uncles, siblings, cousins, and family friends who step in when children need them most.

Kinship caregivers help children stay connected to their family, culture, community, and sense of belonging during times of uncertainty. While many never expected to become caregivers, they answer the call with love, commitment, and resilience.

To every kinship family: thank you for opening your hearts and homes. Your impact on children and youth is immeasurable, and we are grateful for all you do.

Join us this month as we celebrate kinship families, share their stories, and raise awareness about the support they deserve.

✨Youth Spotlight: Meet Trinity!

Trinity is an adventurous 17-year-old who enjoys her independence and values having time to herself. At the same time, she appreciates family meals and opportunities to connect with those around her.

Trinity would love to stay in the Metro area and a home with pets that she can help care for.

Trinity is strong-willed and knows what she wants,” says her child-specific-recruiter, Quinn. Trinity wants to have connection and feeling of normalcy doing “typical” family things.

Throwback Thursday: State Fair Edition! 🎡

Did you know Children's Home once had a booth at the Minnesota State Fair? We believe this photo dates back to the 1970s and captures a special moment in our organization's history.

As fair season is in full swing, we're wishing everyone a fun, safe, and memorable visit to the Great Minnesota Get-Together! 🍧🌽

Martha & Zoé

We have been together since 2010 and have always known that we’ve wanted to grow our family through adoption. We have called the Twin Cities home for the past decade and live in an old neighborhood of Saint Paul. We love doing house projects and most recently renovated our entire kitchen ourselves. Zoé is the artistic director of a ballet company, and Martha is an assistant professor in neuroscience. Our community of friends and family is composed of varied backgrounds and interests. We love traveling and enjoy spending time with our family, friends, and our three cats - Milou, Bradley, and Frederick.

September is National Kinship Care Month, celebrating family members and kin who provide kinship care for children and youth experiencing foster care.

Creating a Family offers a library of free online courses to help kinship caregivers build those skills, on your schedule and at your own pace.

Sometimes raising a relative’s child means learning to parent in ways you didn’t expect.

A child who has experienced loss, trauma, or significant change may need different approaches to behavior, communication, attachment, and connection. Caregivers also deserve tools to understand why a child may be struggling and what they can do to help.

CreatingaFamilyEd.org offers a library of FREE online courses, courtesy of Jockey Being Family, to help kinship caregivers build those skills—on your schedule and at your own pace.
