I am passionate about my city -Lake Helen. My best friend and I got lost, it was a rainy night we drove through Lake Helen. A year later looking for property with land, we found Lake Helen again... and the rest is history.
Let’s start with the horses, for the past 22 years I have been a member of the West Volusia Saddle Club and have served in various capacities: President, Treasure, Arena Manager, and currently Secretary.
I am a champion for environmental causes and have worked on many projects such as the Urban Growth Boundaries and Amendment 4. I also was instrumental in getting Volusia County to initiate an ordinance for Gopher Tortoise Protection.
I have been a member of the Environmental Council of Volusia/Flagler for 16 years; served as President from 2004-2014
Additionally I served with the Volusia/Flagler Sierra Club on the Excom Board intermittently from 2006-2018 serving as Co-Chair and Treasurer.
Let’s come back to Lake Helen, I have served as Chair and Vice-Chair on the Parks and Recreation Board, I helped with the curtain designs at Creative Arts Cafe, I also taught sewing classes at the Creative Arts Cafe - as an aside one of the students I taught now attends at a prestigious design school in New York. Most important I have kept close to the ongoing activities of our city government and have spoken out on issues that I felt were important to the citizens of Lake Helen.
and something you may not know... I was a Mary Kay consultant where I was a Director for 5 years and won 4 GrandAm cars. In Mary Kay I learned many important skills as well as trained consultants.
