The rain did not dampen this celebration! What a wonderful turnout of support for the ribbon-cutting ceremony at the Spanish Community Center, where the Kiwanis of Joliet unveiled their fifth Little Free Library. This new location features ADA-compliant access at 309 N. Eastern Ave., Joliet. Little Free Library book-sharing boxes are open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and are freely accessible to all—removing barriers to book access. A very special thank you to Executive Director Sylvia Acosta-Chavez, Parenting Program Manager Lorena Penaloza, and Group Facilitator Jocelyne Carrillo for their community partnership and for sharing the vision of Kiwanis as we work together to change the world, one child and one community at a time.

It was a rewarding day for long-time Kiwanis members Jenn Koff and Kathy Hartong as they shared their love of reading with children at the Spanish Community Center. The children were fully engaged in the stories and thrilled to receive new books from the Kiwanis Club of Joliet to help build their own home libraries. Kiwanis remains dedicated to changing the world, one child and one community at a time.

Dr. Karla Guseman presented the Richard L. Chavez Kiwanis Key Club Scholarships. In 1962, Richard won a $1,000 scholarship from the Joliet Kiwanis Club, which covered his room and board, tuition and fees for one year at a university of his choice. That scholarship helped Richard earn a degree in education with a major in Social Studies and a minor in Spanish which led him to a successful 39 year teaching career. In gratitude for those who helped and supported him, Richard vowed to pay it forward and has established several scholarship programs to benefit students entering college.

This year's Richard L. Chavez Kiwanis Key Club Scholarship recipients are:
Giselle Garcia: Joliet Central
Sophia Anastopoulos: JCA
Morgan Konieczny: Joliet West

Each student shared activities they participate in and awards and recognitions they have received as well as their plans for the future.

Building home libraries in Joliet, one story at a time! 📚🏘️
The Kiwanis Club of Joliet had an incredible time visiting Anointed Childcare Academy! The kids were so energized and engaged as we shared the magic of reading together.
To keep the momentum going, every child received a brand-new book to take home for their own library. 🏠📖
A special thanks to Jennifer and Bev for your dedication to our mission: improving the world, one child and one community at a time. 🌏❤️
