Prenatal and Birth Doula Services in the Greater Phoenix Area Hi! I would be honored to be a part of your pregnancy and birth story.

I’m Stephanie and as a certified prenatal and birth doula, I help families have the supported, empowered birth experience they desire. My mission is to provide compassionate care and understanding as well as provide the tools and resources families need to make informed choices that are best for them. My goal is to provide comfort, encouragement and instill confidence during this incredible time.

I’m so incredibly grateful to all of these babies parents for allowing me the honor of supporting them through their pregnancies and births!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I may have cried a little putting this together remembering every family and every birth that has touched my heart over this past year 😭.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I feel so lucky to have had the opportunity to work with the most amazing 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th time parents.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Some families welcomed rainbow babies, some families welcomed 1st babies. Some had quick births, some had long labors. Some had vaginal births, some had VBACs, some had cesarean births. Some labored in water, some birthed in water, some labored and birthed on land. Some birthed in hospitals and some out of the hospital.

Each family planned and prepared for their unique birth experiences and I’m so grateful to have been such a tiny part of the process.

Having a "birth plan" doesn't mean you need to stick to it. It means you've educated yourself on your options and chosen what feels right for you before labor begins.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
If you are presented with new information towards the end of your pregnancy or once you're in labor, it's ok to change your mind. In fact, it's more than ok... it's your RIGHT!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Planning an unmedicated labor but decide you do want that epidural after all? You got it.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Planning on laboring in the tub but decide water doesn't sound like something you want to do? You got it.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Is your partner planning on catching the baby but they'd prefer to hold your hand instead? You got it.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Literally, you can change your mind about anything in labor, and it's the responsibility of your birth team to support you in that. Don't have a supportive birth team? Change them too. 😜

Aug. 25-31 is the 9th year of Black Breastfeeding Week. — Did you know that increased breastfeeding among Black women could decrease infant mortality rates by as much as 50%? (CDC)
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
IN THE USA:
⠀⠀
▶️ High Black infant mortality rate {Minorityhealth.org}
• Non-Hispanic Black/African Americans have 2.3 times the infant mortality rate as non-Hispanic whites.
• Non-Hispanic Black/African American infants are four times as likely to die from complications related to low birthweight as compared to non-Hispanic white infants.
• Non-Hispanic Black/African American infants had twice the SIDS mortality rate as non-Hispanic whites, in 2018.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
▶️ Breastmilk has proven to reduce risks of disease, in which Black children have the most of. From upper respiratory infections and Type II diabetes to asthma, and childhood obesity—these issues are rampant in Black communities, and breast milk is the best preventative medicine nature provides.⠀⠀

▶️ We know it, you see it. The lactation field is white female-led. Without Black lactation consultants in the field, it perpetuates the common misconception that Black women don't breastfeed giving the mother little encouragement to do so herself.

World Breastfeeding Week was last week but it was busy over here with school starting, a new teaching adventure (more on that soon 😉) and 2 births so I’m a little late on posting 😬

I am so grateful to have been able to collectively breastfeed my 2 babies for 3 years! 🤯
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It was not an easy road at the beginning and I struggled latching our son. Seeing , an amazing IBCLC, at just 5 days postpartum was life changing! I know I wouldn’t have made it through the latching issues, engorgement and constant clogged ducts if I hadn’t had support from friends, family and other moms.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
If you want to breastfeed, I cannot recommend seeing a lactation consultant enough! Even if this isn’t your first baby. I’m addition to Kathy, a few more of may favorites are…breastfedbabies

Note: While the AAP and WHO recommend breastfeeding, it’s important to evaluate the information and make a decision that best fits your family. As a doula I’m trained to support you in any way that you choose to feed your baby! 🥰

Supporting this family as they welcomed their first baby was such an honor! Mama was calm, powerful and so in tune with her body as she labored completely unmedicated which was her plan all along. Everyone who entered her space remarked how calm and tranquil it was. Amazing job mama! Welcome to our world precious baby boy! 💕

It required me to trust my body and my baby and rely on the support of the most gentle and encouraging birth team, including my husband, my doula, hospital nursing staff, and my doctor, who all believed in me and supported my preferences for birthing. ❤ Welcome to the world, baby Al. There is no such thing as “the easy option” when it comes to birth.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Unplanned or planned, a belly birth or cesarean is still a birth.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I recently supported a mama through an unplanned belly birth after days of labor. I was in awe of her strength and power and her ability to make a decision that was best for her and her baby, even though it deviated from her original plan. She is a warrior!

My role as a doula is to support my clients in any and all ways. 🤍
