Vehicle Fire – Near Lake Road Elementary | Union City

Early Friday afternoon, March 13, 2026, the Union City Fire Department responded to a reported vehicle fire in the area of Lake Road Elementary School.

The original call to dispatch came in as a vehicle that was smoking, prompting firefighters to respond to investigate. However, by the time UCFD Engine 4153 arrived on scene, the vehicle had become fully involved in flames. Fire crews quickly began suppression efforts to bring the fire under control and prevent it from spreading.

Due to the location near the school and nearby roadway, crews worked efficiently to secure the area while extinguishing the fire. At this time, no injuries have been reported, and the incident appears to have been contained to the single vehicle.

The Union City Fire Department was dispatched at 5:26 a.m. on Thursday, March 12, 2026 as automatic aid to South Fulton Fire Department for a reported rural residential structure fire at 7380 E Pierce Station Road in Obion County. The initial dispatch was for a fully involved residential structure fire with unknown entrapment.

The Union City unit was the first to arrive on scene and reported a single-wide mobile home fully involved. Subsequent dispatch information confirmed that both occupants of the home were accounted for. The incident commander ordered the crew to perform defensive operations only, meaning that firefighters were not to enter the burning building. By 5:56, firefighters had extinguished most of the fire from the exterior when an explosion ripped through the side of the mobile home, knocking two firefighters and the incident commander to the ground.

One Union City firefighter sustained non-life-threatening injuries. That firefighter was transported to Baptist Memorial Hospital in Union City where he was treated and later released.

In addition to Union City, South Fulton, Fulton, Rives, Troy, and Martin Fire Departments all responded to the incident, along with KenTenn EMS and Gibson County Electric System. All departments except for Union City and South Fulton were released from the scene by 8:15 a.m.

Union City requested assistance from TBI fire investigators to determine the cause of the fire and the explosion. The investigation continued until 2:33 p.m. The causes of the fire and explosion remain undetermined at this time.
