Thank you to all of my supporters. I appreciate the valiant efforts during this campaign, and I want you know that I am incredibly grateful for your encouragement.
On August 22nd, the primary Elections will be ratified, and I will be there with my colleagues, to cement this precious moment in history.
This time, it was not meant to be, but all is not lost. A victory for this town has been secured, and I will not spend the remainder of my term sitting complacent. There is still work to be done: Affordable Housing, Water, Public Safety, and the Sports Complex. These are all issues that still need to be addressed, and you can count on me, as always, to defend the will of the people and lend my support when needed.
On Wednesday night I received a text from my wife, "Have you seen this?" followed by a screenshot of a post on Mayors Vail's Facebook. Exclaiming she felt "that a concession may not come from him." Personally I was unfamiliar with this practice, so I researched it. I learned a Concession is a long standing tradition in presidential elections, John McCains presidential concession speech in 2008 is a shining example of this. It showed grace and humility, in a tumultuous time.
But what about Tusayan? I searched through all of the available media outlets and have found no evidence of the practice, including when Clarinda ran and lost her elections in 2010 and 2012. She offered no concessions then, and reveals a double standard now.
Like always, instead of showing grace, Clarinda spews vitriol. A corrosive toxin, that erodes the spirit of this community. Instead of teaching, she berates. Instead of reaching out, mending bridges; She continues to gaslight and evoke hostility to those who oppose her. The only lesson she teaches: Once acquired, her targets will never know peace.
This town will never be free, until the antiquated ways of the past are left behind. We must continue to look forward, to build a brighter future. Integrating new technologies, and pursuing oppurtunities when manifested. We must balance progress and preservation and that will require collaboration and compromise.
We are living in tumultuous times. Economic uncertainty and political upheavals, do little to soothe the unrest; and I know this community will endure as it always has. With every breath that I have, I will continue to fight for those who are unable, for those afraid of expressing opinion, and for those who are struggling. Despite the circumstances, it's not about ego, it's about the community. As Abraham Lincoln once said: "Elections belong to the people. It's their decision."
Thank you all again for your support, and I look forward to what the future brings.
