Last week was Community Helpers Week at the CDC daycare center in Tunkhannock Borough. Court Security Officer Nate Evans read to the children as well as handing out coloring books and crayons. The children also learned about one of the Sheriff’s Office patrol vehicles. This was great work by Nate and there is more to come. We thank the CDC staff for inviting the Sheriff's Office and look forward to returning.

On behalf of the members of the Wyoming County Sheriff's Office and myself, I extend condolences to the officers of the South Abington Twp. Police Dept. and to the family of Chief Gerrity. If my memory is correct, I first met Chief Gerrity when he was a patrol officer, somewhere in the 1980's. Though my law enforcement career took me to Tunkhannock Borough and eventually to Wyoming County, "Doc" Gerrity was always a law enforcement friend and always a perfect professional. Rest in peace Chief, your legacy will live on.

Sheriff Roberts

We regret to announce the passing of retired Police Chief Robert ‘Doc’ Gerrity, a distinguished member of the South Abington Township Police Department for 45 years. Chief Gerrity served with dedication and integrity, holding the position of Chief since 1991 until his retirement in 2023. He was highly respected within the community and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Tunkhannock Township Police Department Honors the Service of K9 Etu

The Tunkhannock Township Police Department announces with deep sadness the passing of K9 Etu, a five-year-old Belgian Malinois who faithfully served alongside her handler, Patrolman Ben Seibert.

K9 Etu was a highly trained police service dog known for her dedication, intelligence, and unwavering loyalty. She was an invaluable member of the department and a trusted partner to Patrolman Seibert, forming a bond rooted in commitment and teamwork. Tragically, K9 Etu passed away after developing a sudden medical condition.

Despite the tireless and compassionate efforts of the veterinary professionals who worked to save her life, K9 Etu’s condition proved too severe. The department is deeply grateful to the veterinarians and medical staff whose dedication and care extended every possible measure on her behalf.

Throughout her service, K9 Etu demonstrated professionalism, courage, and an eagerness to serve and protect the community. Her presence made a lasting impact on the department and the residents of Tunkhannock Township.

The department extends its heartfelt condolences to Patrolman Seibert and thanks the community for its continued support during this difficult time. K9 Etu’s service and sacrifice will never be forgotten.
