๐Ÿšจ Prom Season Safety Awareness ๐Ÿšจ

Today, Tripoli School in coordination with Tripoli Fire Department , Tripoli Ambulance, Tripoli Police Department, Bremer County Sheriff's Office, Iowa State Patrol, Tieskoetter Collision Center, Bremer County Attorneyโ€™s Office, and Bremer County Emergency Management , conducted a mock accident scenario for students as part of prom season safety education.

This realistic demonstration, made possible with the help of a few volunteer students and supportive parents, showed firsthand the realโ€‘life consequences of impaired and distracted driving. After the scenario, students heard directly from emergency responders and local officials about how one poor decision behind the wheel can change โ€” or end โ€” lives in seconds.

Events like this arenโ€™t meant to scare, but to educate, prepare, and protect our kids as they celebrate important milestones. We are grateful for the collaboration between agencies and the commitment to keeping our students and community safe.

๐Ÿ‘‰ Prom should be remembered for the right reasons. Make the plan. Make the call. Make it home safely.

๐Ÿ™ Thank You! ๐Ÿ™

A huge thank you to all of the first responders and partnering agencies who helped make todayโ€™s mock accident a success. Your time, dedication, and willingness to educate our students truly makes a difference.

We would also like to extend a special thank you to Angel Goodenbour and Brian Bunce for supplying the great photos that helped capture this important event.
Your support and teamwork help keep our students and community safe. ๐Ÿ’™

Last Friday, our Tripoli Ambulance and Fire Departments responded to a twoโ€‘vehicle accident at Highway 63 and Cโ€‘33. Highway 63 is a busy fourโ€‘lane road with high speeds, so once the scene was stabilized, we moved the ambulance to the nearby parkโ€‘andโ€‘ride for everyoneโ€™s safety.
One of the vehicles involved was a mother with three little children, ages 1 to 4. When I arrived to meet the ambulance, I was assigned to check on the mother. I was told the children had been moved to another vehicle, where one of our responders, Kelli, was already evaluating them and making sure they were okay.
What truly stood out that day was the incredible support happening behind the scenes. Our Emergency Manager. Aaron Goodenbourโ€”who also serves as Assistant Fire Chief and an ambulance driverโ€”and his wife Angel Goodenbour were on their way to supper and a hockey game when they came upon the accident shortly after it happened. It wasnโ€™t until later that I learned his wife, who has little ones of her own and is a natural with kids, was the one who took the children to their vehicle, watched over them, and comforted them while we cared for their mom and waited for their dad to arrive from Cedar Falls.
It was a powerful reminder that our respondersโ€™ families are part of the backbone of our community care. Weโ€™re grateful for every hand that helps keep our neighbors safe. Without the support of our families, many of us couldnโ€™t do what we do. It truly takes a whole team. Thank You Angel Goodenbour and all the rest of the behind the scenes supporters!!!

If you have a calling and would like to join our family of responders or just check us out, let us know and make sure your follow us.

While cleaning up our EMS iPad, I came across these accident photos. For those who donโ€™t know, our crews sometimes take photos on severe calls โ€” not for social media, but so the ER doctors can see what we saw on scene. A picture truly can tell the story better than words when seconds matter.

This crash was caused by a distracted driver who dropped his phone on the floor and tried to pick it up. In those few seconds, he failed to see a gravel truck turning into a quarry and struck it at around 70 mph.

If you look closely at the damage, you can see he hit just slightly offset from the truck. That small difference โ€” just inches โ€” is likely what saved his life. The driver walked away from this.

Some might call it luckโ€ฆ others might say the good Lord was watching over him that day.

I am sad to report that Betty Holm, a former member of this Ambulance service passed away on the 16th. Between 1980 and 2000 she and her husband, Keith, who passed away 17 months ago participated in a total of 1160 calls. Betty and Keith were quite a couple and we will miss them.

What these two EMS providers are going through is unfortunate.

According to a Kentucky medical board, EMS workers must have 'wilderness' certification to administer the treatment โ€” which neither paramedic had at the time of the incide...
