Mercer Vicinage Superior Court Judge Sherry Wilson gave an overview of the court process for criminal cases to students in a social justice class at Lawrence High School yesterday. During her visit, which was part of the vicinage’s One Judge One School program, Judge Wilson also spoke about recovery court.

Superior Court Judge Daniel Roberts and his law clerk Stephanie Joress visited fourth graders at Harrison Elementary School in Roselle yesterday where they discussed the role of the courts and held a question-and-answer session.
Judge Roberts, on the bench for five years, also spoke about his career path. The visit was part of the Union Vicinage’s Classroom to Courtroom program.

We had a great turnout for the Atlantic/Cape May Vicinage Resource Fair last week where 46 vendors were on site to provide information about local services and resources available to recovery court participants, probation clients, and members of the public. Organized by the recovery court staff in Cape May County, the event was held at the Cape May County Courthouse.

Staff from the Somerset/Hunterdon/Warren Vicinage hosted students from North Plainfield High School’s AP World History, World History, and U.S. History II Honors classes today.
Students learned about the judicial system and took part in a question-and-answer session with Somerset Criminal Division Judge Lance J. Kalik, Assistant Family Division Manager Erica Carman, Court Services Supervisor Andrea Church and staff member Vesa Wang.

Students from Camden County Technical School and Overbrook High School visited the Camden Vicinage for a Law Day event last week. The students’ half-day program included observing the courtrooms of Superior Court Judges Gwendolyn Blue, Judith Charny and Michael Mikulski. They also learned more about this year’s theme “The Rule of Law and the American Dream” from Assignment Judge Steven J. Polansky along with Judges Thomas Booth and Judge Sheila Ellington and Camden County Bar Association president Thomas Hagner.

The Morris/Sussex Vicinage marked Law Day recently with an event that featured remarks from Appellate Judge Lorraine M. Augostini, Chancery Presiding Judge James M. DeMarzo, and Morris County Bar Association President Lawrence S. Cutalo. The Morris County Bar Foundation and Association honored West Morris Mendham High School’s mock trial team as county champions for 21 consecutive years, and teens from the Morris Performing Arts Company performed musical selections.
