**Legislation Would Abolish the Selective Service
System**. *MSN* reports, “A
bipartisan group of lawmakers unveiled legislation on Thursday that would
dismantle the government agency responsible for maintaining the military draft
database of young, eligible men. The bill, advanced by Senators Ron Wyden,
D-Ore., Rand Paul, R-Ky., and Cynthia Lummis, R-Wyo. – would phase out the
Selective Service System, citing its annual operating cost of more than $31 million
per year. The senators argued the agency
has been largely defunct since 1973, the last time the United States conducted
conscription.”

Today, AFSA Chapter 1320 pauses to honor and remember the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our nation.
Memorial Day is more than the unofficial start of summer, it’s a solemn reminder of the cost of freedom. As military members, veterans, and families, we carry the legacy of those who walked before us and never made it home.
We owe them a debt we can never fully repay, but we can honor them by living with purpose, serving with integrity, and never forgetting their sacrifice.
🇺🇸 Lest We Forget.

On this Memorial Day weekend Chapter 1320 went out to Vacaville Cemetery to pay respects and place flags on the graves of veterans 🇺🇸. It’s an honor to be able do this every year for those who came before us.🫡

Today was a special moment for AFSA Chapter 1320!

We had the opportunity to witness a true passing of the torch as one of our more senior members, Alena Zidlicky, helped mentor and guide one of our junior members and Airman Activities Coordinator, Genina Criss, through the presentation of the AFSA JROTC Award at C.K. McClatchy High School in Sacramento, California.

This opportunity also allowed our chapter to step up on behalf of AFSA Headquarters and support a school outside of our district. The award recognizes an outstanding AFJROTC cadet who ranks in the top 10% of their class and demonstrates exceptional qualities in military leadership, discipline, character, and citizenship.

Moments like this show exactly what AFSA is about: mentorship, service, and developing the next generation of leaders.

Our very own Airman Activities Coordinator, Genina Criss, led 11 of her peers in preparing meals for two fire stations!

This is what service before self looks like in action—Airmen giving back to those who protect and serve our community every day.

Great work, Genina and team!

**Defense Department Wants to Split
Military Healthcare Funding into Two Pots.** The *Military Times*
reports, “The Pentagon’s fiscal 2027 budget request
calls for dividing defense health program funding into two: a Combat
Operational and Medical Readiness account, or COMP, and a Private Sector Care
Program section, or PSCP. The COMP budget would pay for healthcare and medical
readiness of active duty personnel and support military treatment facilities,
while the PSCP would cover Tricare, the department’s private health program and
other care that is not offered at military hospitals, according to budget
documents.”
