This happened in a Torrance City Council meeting.

Aurelio Mattucci told Pakistani-American Councilmember Asam Sheikh: “This is not Pakistan.”

That’s not policy disagreement. That’s telling someone they don’t belong.

Torrance is diverse. It’s home to people from everywhere. That’s a strength, not something to weaponize.

We should expect better from our elected officials.

There has been a personal smear campaign against Councilmember Sheikh, with false allegations being pushed by political opponents and even sitting councilmembers amplifying those claims on social media.
