π¨ LIFEGUARD INSERVICE TRAINING π¨
Before the pool opened this morning, our lifeguards participated in an in-service training.
In-services are regular training sessions that help lifeguards maintain and sharpen the skills they may need to use in an emergency. Lifeguarding isn't something you learn onceβit requires continual practice.
Some of today's training included:
π Spot It β More than just a card game. The rapid visual searching used to find matching symbols activates many of the same observation and scanning skills lifeguards use while monitoring the water and identifying potential problems before they become emergencies.
𧀠Glove-Up Progression β Lifeguards practiced putting on gloves while their vision was obstructed. In a real emergency, wet hands, wet gloves, stress, and time pressure can make a simple task surprisingly difficult.
π Victim recognition drills
π©Ή Head, neck, and spinal injury management
π Passive victim extraction and CPR scenarios
π» Radio communication review
We also launched a new season-long point system that will recognize participation, training accomplishments, and professional performance throughout the summer.
A lot of work happens behind the scenes before the first patron ever enters the water, and we're proud of the effort our staff puts into being prepared.
