Listen, my children, and you shall hear
Of the midnight ride of Paul Revere,
On the eighteenth of April, in Seventy-Five:
Hardly a man is now alive
Who remembers that famous day and year.
On this day: April 18, 2025, we remember Longfellow’s words:
Hang a lantern aloft in the belfry-arch
Of the North-Church-tower, as a signal-light,—
One if by land, and two if by sea;
We know the rest of the story…two lanterns shone bright in the belfry of the
North Church, signaling that the British were marching to Lexington and
Concord across the Charles River.
As part of the “Two Lights for Tomorrow” initiative, communities are lighting two
lanterns on April 18 and 19 to honor Revere’s signal and the spirit of unity and
freedom. This is part of the “American 250” celebration.
The Fire Museum is joining in, as we hold two lanterns aloft in our Fireboat, “the
Tommy.”
In addition, we’re giving all visitors to the Museum on Saturday, April 19 a free
copy of our Fire Museum Lanterns poster. We’re open Saturday 10 – 4.
