🌿 Get your hands dirty for a great cause! 🌿

Join us at the Barataria-Terrebonne National Estuary Program(BTNEP) Native Plant Nursery on June 5th (and the first Friday of each month) from 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM and help grow the plants that help restore Louisiana’s coast!

Volunteers will assist with:
🌱 Separating plants
🪴 Up-potting seedlings
🌿 Weeding
💚 And more nursery tasks!

The native plants grown at the nursery are used in coastal restoration projects that help stabilize Louisiana’s eroding wetlands and create critical habitat for our wildlife.

📍 Location: Nicholls Farm
104 Thoroughbred Park Dr.
Thibodaux, LA

💲 Free to attend — registration is required.
📧 Sign up by emailing: [email protected]

Exciting things are also growing at BTNEP! Plans are underway to expand the nursery footprint with a new office building, shadehouse, potting shed, and greenhouse to increase native vegetation production throughout our Estuary.

Interested in learning more or supporting the expansion? Contact Bren Haase at [email protected].

Come spend your morning making a difference, one plant at a time! 🌎🌾

🐊🎉 Happy Alligator Day, cher! 🎉🐊

Down here in Louisiana, gators aren’t just wildlife… they’re basically our neighbors 😅 Let’s celebrate with some lagniappe facts, Cajun-style:

🟢 The American Alligator can grow up to 13–15 feet long—that’s longer than a small boat, sha!
🟢 Louisiana is home to over 2 million gators—yeah, we got plenty to go ‘round
🟢 Gators can run up to 20 mph on land (so maybe don’t try to race one 👀)
🟢 They’re great parents—mamas guard their nests and even help their babies hatch 🐣
🟢 Gators play a BIG role in our wetlands by creating “gator holes” that hold water during dry times, helping other wildlife survive

💡 Cajun tip: If you see a gator, admire from a distance and don’t feed ‘em—they’re wild for a reason! That means NO marshmallows for the swamp puppies, beb!

From the bayous to the marsh, these prehistoric powerhouses are part of what makes Louisiana… well, Louisiana. 🌊

Laissez les bons temps rouler—but maybe not too close to the water’s edge 😉

🐢🎉 Happy World Turtle Day! 🎉🐢

Down here in Louisiana, turtles aren’t just part of the scenery—they’re part of our story! Let’s celebrate with a few fun Cajun-style turtle facts:

🟢 Louisiana is home to 30+ species of turtles—from freshwater to coastal marshes!
🟢 The Alligator Snapping Turtle is one of the largest freshwater turtles in the world… and yeah, you don’t want to stick your hand near that mouth 😅
🟢 Diamondback Terrapin love our brackish marshes—right where fresh and saltwater meet
🟢 Sea turtles like the Loggerhead Sea Turtle travel thousands of miles but still depend on Louisiana’s coastal waters
🟢 Turtles help keep our ecosystems balanced by controlling pests and cleaning up waterways

💡 Cajun wisdom: Trash is horrible for turtles. Nets, straws, and plastics are just a few that cause havoc on our little friends. If you find some, pick it up cher!

Our wetlands and waterways are home to these amazing creatures—protecting our coast means protecting them too. 🌊

Laissez les bons temps rouler… slow and steady, beb! 🐢💚
