National Voter Registration Week is here, and I want every eligible Houstonian to remember something I have believed throughout my entire career: your voice matters, and your vote is one of the most powerful ways to use it.

From September 13 through September 20, the League of Women Voters of Houston is working across our community to help Houstonians get registered and get vote ready. Their goal is to help register 1,200 new voters, and I am asking each of you to be part of that effort.

Whether you need to check your own registration, help a family member get registered, or volunteer a few hours in the community, there is a place for you in this work.

If we want stronger neighborhoods, better schools, safer communities, and a government that truly hears the people, then we must participate. Too many people fought, marched, sacrificed, and even died so that we could have a voice at the ballot box. We honor that sacrifice by using it.

Check your status. Register if you need to. Bring somebody with you. Volunteer if you can. And most importantly, do not sit this election out.

Your voice matters. Your vote matters. And our community is stronger when all of us are heard.

Ms. "T" aka Texas Tough

Some people look at a building and see concrete.

I look at this building and see a reminder.

JUSTICE FOR ALL.

Those are my eyes watching over downtown Houston, and that message represents a fight I have carried for more than 50 years.

I have seen laws change. I have seen doors open that were once slammed shut. I have seen generations of young people stand taller because somebody before them refused to sit down and be silent.

But I also know our work is not finished.

Justice means every child deserves a quality education. Justice means our seniors can live with dignity. Justice means women are respected, families are protected, communities are safe, and your ZIP code never determines the value of your life.

I did not come this far just to admire the progress we have made.

I am still watching. I am still working. I am still fighting.

And as long as God gives me strength, I will continue using my voice for people who too often feel unseen and unheard.

Those may be my eyes on the building, but the mission belongs to all of us.

Justice for ALL means ALL.

With the endorsement of nearly 1,000 grassroots leaders, elected officials, and party leaders across our state, I am proud to have filed for re-election this afternoon to continue our work rebuilding the Texas Democratic Party.

In just one year, we’ve ushered in financial solvency for the state party, recruited a Democratic candidate for every state and federal office, launched an historic coordinated campaign, opened four additional offices across Texas, flipped a seat in the Texas Senate, and out-voted Republicans for the first time in more than two decades.

We’re building a party that is bottom-up, not top-down—recruiting and training county chairs and precinct chairs, and helping candidates in parts of the state that have always ignored and taken for granted.

I hope to have the opportunity to continue executing our plan through Election Day, where Texas Democrats have huge opportunity! With unity, focus, and a lot of hard work, I know that we can finally accomplish the progress we have been chasing for decades.
