πŸ’™ OFFICER DOWN πŸ’™
Today, Texas DPS Trooper Sergio Romero was killed in the line of duty near Childress in a vehicle accident.

Trooper Romero leaves behind his wife, two young children, and a law enforcement family that is mourning an unimaginable loss.

We stand with his loved ones and our brothers and sisters at the Texas Department of Public Safety.

Rest easy, Trooper Romero. Your watch is over.

It only takes a few minutes.

As temperatures climb across Central Texas, please remember that a parked vehicle can become dangerously hot in a very short amount of time. In fact, the temperature inside a parked car can be 20 degrees or hotter than the temperature outside, even with the windows cracked or while parked in the shade. Those conditions can quickly become life-threatening for pets.

If your pet can’t go inside with you, the safest option is to leave them at home.

If you see an animal in distress inside a hot vehicle:

☎️ Call 911 immediately
🐢 Try to locate the owner if it is safe to do so
πŸš— Stay near the vehicle until help arrives

A quick errand isn't worth risking a life. Help us keep our four-legged family members safe this summer.

β€’ Look before you lock.
β€’ Avoid distracted driving and always wear your seatbelt.

A few extra seconds of awareness can save a life. Let’s work together to keep our families and community safe.

Central Texas temperatures are rising, and dehydration can happen faster than you think. Whether you're working outside, exercising, attending sporting events, or simply enjoying time outdoors, it's important to stay ahead of the heat.

πŸ’§ Drink water regularly throughout the day β€” don't wait until you're thirsty.

🧒 Wear lightweight, light-colored clothing and take frequent breaks in the shade or air conditioning.

🌑️ Know the warning signs of heat-related illness:
β€’ Excessive sweating
β€’ Dizziness or lightheadedness
β€’ Headache
β€’ Muscle cramps
β€’ Nausea
β€’ Fatigue

🚨 Call 911 immediately if someone shows signs of heat stroke:
β€’ Confusion or altered mental status
β€’ Loss of consciousness
β€’ Hot, dry skin
β€’ Body temperature above 103Β°F

πŸ‘΅πŸ‘Ά Check on elderly family members, young children, and neighbors who may be more vulnerable to the heat.

Remember: Water. Rest. Shade. Those three simple steps can help prevent a medical emergency.

Stay cool, stay hydrated, and stay safe this summer.
