In Panama City this morning, I addressed the Bay County Board of County Commissioners to support the moratorium on data centers in Bay County, and to deliver the local ordinance I wrote to stop these hyperscale data centers once and for all.
These largescale facilities don't just impact our utility costs—they threaten North Florida’s air quality, natural resources, water supply, and our rural way of life.
Corporations are actively seeking out rural areas in North Florida for these facilities—viewing communities with cheaper land and lower populations as ideal locations for expansion. If we don't pay attention now, we could face long-term consequences that outweigh any short-term promises.
The Big Bend's rivers, farmland, forests, and small-town character are worth protecting.
The decisions being made today will shape the future of North Florida for generations, and we cannot afford to sit on the sidelines while outside interests determine what that future looks like.
