Campus Safety Reminder: Scooter and E-Bike Theft Prevention
As we move through the academic year, the Florida State University Police Department (FSUPD) reminds students to take steps to protect their scooters and e-bikes.
In 2025, FSUPD investigated 76 scooter and e-bike thefts, with most incidents occurring near residence halls and other high-traffic campus areas, including Woodward Avenue, Honors Way, Varsity Drive, and West Call Street.
Many of these thefts are opportunistic, involving scooters and e-bikes left unsecured, under-secured, or unattended—even for short periods. The financial impact can be significant, with stolen scooters and e-bikes typically valued between $250 and $1,500.
FSUPD encourages students to:
Always lock your scooter or e-bike, even if leaving it unattended briefly
Use a U-lock or heavy-duty chain lock
Secure your scooter or e-bike to a fixed object or designated rack
When leaving scooters or e-bikes outdoors overnight, use both a U-lock and a secondary lock
Record your scooter or e-bike’s make, model, and serial number, take a photo, and register it using the FSUPD Personal Property Registration system: https://apps.its.fsu.edu/PropertyRegistration/PropertyRegistration.html
