Welcoming international visitors to our area for the FIFA World Cup or local events?

Here's what they should know in an emergency:

- In the U.S., call 911 for police, fire, or medical emergencies.
- Voice calls are preferred, especially for international visitors.
- Text to 911 may not work reliably from international phones, roaming service, Wi-Fi calling, or messaging apps.
- WhatsApp and other messaging apps are not supported for contacting 911.
- Interpreters are available. Say your language, and an interpreter can join the call.

We're here to help. 24/7.

After more than 25 years of service to the Sumner Police Department, including 14 years as Chief, yesterday marked Chief Brad Moericke’s final radio transmission.

It was an honor for South Sound 911 to provide the final call and help mark this moment alongside our public safety partners.

Thank you, Chief Moericke, for your partnership, leadership, and dedication to the Sumner community. Congratulations on a well earned retirement. Your final transmission was received loud and clear.

Take a listen to Chief Moericke’s final sign off.

Not every situation is a 911 emergency. Knowing the difference matters.

Three-digit numbers are designed to be easy to remember when you need help. Whether it’s an emergency, mental health support, city services, or finding local resources, using the right number connects you to the right response.

Choosing the right number keeps emergency lines open for true life-threatening situations and crimes in progress, while connecting others to the support they need.

Nothing says “we’re not home” quite like a real-time vacation post.

Before sharing your location, check-ins, or travel timeline, remember those updates can also tell others your home is empty.

Protect yourself, your family, and your property by posting after the trip.

If you come home and discover something happened while you were away, but it is not in progress and no suspect is present, please call the non-emergency line at 253-287-4455. This helps keep 911 available for life-threatening and in-progress emergencies.
