Happy National Donut Day 🍩

It's a well-known fact donuts are delicious, but did you know there is history behind National Donut Day?

The unofficial holiday started in 1939 and was founded by the Salvation Army as a way of honoring the "Donut Ladies" who would serve donuts to the soldiers of World War I.

We love history, but we also love an excuse to enjoy a donut 🍩

What do you think of the new patch design? 😏

Another day, another unusual call for Tacoma PD's Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Unit.

On June 3, 2026, officers were called after a suspicious object was found at a house undergoing renovations. Patrol officers responded and requested our EOD Unit to investigate.

Once on scene, EOD technicians examined the object and determined it was military ordnance. During a search of the property, technicians located a second suspicious item. Further inspection revealed the items were two WWII-era M77 90mm armor-piercing rounds. The rounds contained no explosives and were made entirely of steel, weighing approximately 23.4 pounds each. These types of rounds were historically fired from tanks and anti-tank cannons.

Army EOD safely took custody of the items.

While this discovery turned out to be non-explosive, it's a great reminder that if you come across a suspicious military-looking item, do not touch or move it. Leave the area and call 911 so trained personnel can respond safely.

K9 Charlie has been busy during his first few weeks on the street.

From locating weapons suspects tried to ditch, to tracking for over an hour to help locate a suspect in an Assault 1st investigation, Charlie has already proven he’s ready to work. He even helped locate a suspect hiding inside an outdoor refrigerator.

His stats are impressive, five captures in six short weeks. This video only shows a few highlights from Charlie’s first weeks on patrol with Tacoma Police Department.

So, what does Charlie do when he’s off duty?

At home, life is a little more relaxed. Charlie spends his downtime running around the backyard chasing birds, squirrels, and bunnies, and he’s almost always carrying his favorite Kong toy around in his mouth.

Hardworking on the street. Big puppy at home.

Good boy, Charlie. 🐕
