NORTHSIDE NEIGHBOR CLOSET
Clothing for our neighbors. Dignity for everyone.

While going door-to-door throughout the Northside, I’ve had the chance to meet so many great people and hear about what’s going on in their lives. One thing that has really stuck with me is seeing families who are struggling to afford basic necessities, including clothing.

And it got me thinking: so many of us have clothes sitting in our closets that we no longer wear. What if we could simply get those clothes to a neighbor who could use them?

That’s the idea behind the Northside Neighbor Closet.

I’m collecting clean, gently used clothing and making it available to Northside families who need it, completely free of charge.

There’s no money involved and no judgment. Just neighbors helping neighbors.

We’ll accept clean, gently used clothing for people of all ages and sizes. If you have clothes tucked away in a closet that you haven’t worn in years, this is a chance to give them a new home—and hopefully make someone’s day a little easier.

I believe that’s what being part of a community is all about. We look out for each other, we share what we can, and we make sure our neighbors know they aren’t alone.

If you have clothing you’d like to donate, I’d love to hear from you. Let’s build something good together, right here on the Northside.

Tomorrow, the city of Syracuse will show their support for the students who are beginning their new school year by standing outside and cheering them on. Students need to know there are people on their side as they grow and learn. Find a Syracuse city school and join in if you are able.

Today, I will be attending the Labor Day Cookout at Hawley-Green Cultivating Community Garden - 618 Hawley Ave in Syracuse. This is a wonderful time for community and fellowship. Bring a dish to share.

I recently had a remarkable, and honestly heartbreaking, experience while going door-to-door.

A group of teenagers, probably between 13 and 15 years old, were playing basketball in the street when they saw me walking by and started talking to me. I told them I was running for public office, and one of them asked me a question I will not forget:

“Can you make the city safer?”

They went on to tell me about other kids their age walking around with guns and being involved with gangs.

No teenager should have to worry about whether another kid is carrying a gun. No child should feel like gangs are simply part of growing up.

Our kids deserve the opportunity to be kids. They should be able to play basketball in their neighborhood, walk to a friend's house, and spend time outside without worrying about violence.

There are no simple answers to this problem, and as a County Legislator, I know there are limits to what county government can directly control. But that does not mean we should accept the status quo.

If elected, I will work with the Sheriff's Office, our local law enforcement agencies, community organizations, and other partners to understand what more can be done to keep young people safe and give them better opportunities.

That conversation with those teenagers reminded me exactly why I am running: because government should be working to make it possible for kids to simply be kids.

Today, we celebrate the people whose hard work keeps our communities moving — the workers who build, repair, teach, serve, create, and keep our local economy going every day.

Here in Onondaga County, we need to make sure that the opportunities being created in our community are opportunities for the people who already call it home.

That means supporting skilled trades, apprenticeships, local businesses, and real career paths — including the opportunities coming from Micron and other growing industries.

Work should provide more than a paycheck. It should provide purpose — a path toward stability, independence, and a better future.

This Labor Day, I’m grateful for everyone who gets up, goes to work, and helps make our community stronger.

Overall, I am not actively seeking endorsements because I want my campaign to remain focused on the people of my district and the issues that matter to them.

That said, this was a very welcome—and honestly surprising—endorsement. I am grateful to Bruce Blakeman for his support and confidence in my campaign.

Going door-to-door, I’ve met people who feel like they’ve been overlooked by the city. I’ve heard about a driveway that the Water Department had to take apart during the winter and still hasn’t repaired, and a resident who called DPW for an extra trash pickup two weeks ago that was still sitting in front of their house when I drove by yesterday. These are just two examples.

When I hear your story and have the details I need, I don’t just write it down—I start getting to work.

After hearing about the driveway, I called the Water Department to report the issue. They told me they’re looking into it, and hopefully, within two weeks, I’ll have results.

And after seeing that the garbage was still there yesterday, I started the process today of contacting DPW to make sure that pickup happens next week.

This is what I believe representation should look like: listening to residents, following up on the problems they bring to you, and doing everything you can to make sure they don’t get overlooked.

I may not be able to fix every problem myself, but I can make the calls, ask the questions, and keep pushing until someone responsible addresses it.
