Que descanse en paz 😢 // I remember meeting Alma when we were fighting for farmworker protections during the pandemic, so many times she raised her voice in a hearing, gave a testimony or shared her experiences and knowledge to better the lives of others, and always with a smile and with joy. Our deepest condolences, she was one of the good ones, a fighter. May she rest in peace 💔

We’re outraged, grieved, and angry to see another murder at the hands of ICE. But we are not surprised. In addition to the senseless murders of Johan Sebastian Guerrero in the small town of Biddeford, Maine, Lorenzo Salgado Araujo (Houston), Ruben Ray Martinez (San Antonio), Silverio Villegas Gonzalez (Chicago), and Alex Pretti and Renee Good (Minneapolis), 52 people have died in ICE detention under the current administration—21 in the first half of this year alone—and another 17 people died in CBP detention in 2025.

We don’t trust and we don’t believe a pause in traffic stops will be respected or will keep our community safe. ICE has been given a green light for detaining as many black and brown immigrants as possible by any means necessary. Congress created this situation when it authorized a quarter of a trillion dollars for mass detention and deportation in the last year, granting ICE and Border Patrol more than 8 years of their typical annual budgets in less than a year.

We demand an immediate halt in all funding for these deadly operations. Congress must refuse to provide one dollar to ICE or Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Border Patrol in the FY2027 appropriations process and immediately take action to revoke the hundreds of billions already given through the last two reconciliation bills.

Take action by joining an upcoming training with Syracuse Immigrant and Refugee Defense Network and calling your representatives to demand an immediate pause and revocation of ICE and CBP funding: https://www.congress.gov/members/find-your-member
