Hello, my name is Gary Lund, and I am proud to announce my candidacy for Swansea Selectman.
As someone from a multigenerational Swansea family, I care deeply about our town and its future. I believe Swansea must remain a place where families can live, work, and thrive - but to do that, we must take a serious look at the growing burden on taxpayers and bring spending under control.

Our town faces important challenges, including the needs of our schools, water systems, and highways. These are essential services, and they must be addressed with responsible planning, smart budgeting, and accountability to the residents who pay the bills.

I believe in listening to residents and working together to find practical solutions that protect our town's character while ensuring Swansea continues to move forward.

I respectfully ask for your support in the upcoming election so we can work together to keep Swansea a strong community for current residents and future generations.

Thank you.
Gary Lund

Dear fellow Swansea residents,

I'm incredibly grateful to all the supporters who have reached out to me during my campaign. For those I haven’t had a chance to speak with in person , I’d like to summarize my concerns and priorities and share my vision for Swansea .

I am a lifelong resident of Swansea and I care deeply about the future of our town. I made the decision to run for Selectman because I want to make a difference
I’m concerned about taxes rising year after year. I've been researching ways to alleviate the burden, particularly for seniors and fixed income residents, looking for fresh solutions that can make a real impact.

We need to increase new business to ease residential tax burdens. I stand firm against over development- we need to find a balance that will benefit us all.

It is my opinion that the town has not done enough to ensure public access to the Rights of Way. Pearse’s Landing is a historically significant part of town that has been closed for years. Many Selectmen have run on the promise to rectify this situation, but years have passed with no results. This is a top priority project for me.

I believe that the town administrator’s contract was already quite generous before she was given a large raise ( with little or no input from residents). In a time where many people in town are struggling, this feels disrespectful to residents, as well as to the other town employees who received a far smaller percentage increase. We need to practice more responsible spending.

I'm committed to transparency, accountability and thoughtful leadership. As Selectman, I will always be available to any resident and I will do what is best for the long-term future of Swansea.

If elected I will work to move the town elections and town meetings to Saturdays. Many towns in our state have already done this. By holding meetings on Saturdays our older residents who don’t drive at night will be more able to attend. And younger families might find child care easier on a Saturdayversus a Monday night town meeting. Parking should be easier as school is not in session.

Due to childcare issues many residents leave the meetings early or are unable to attend the Monday night time slot. A Saturday annual or special town meeting could start late morning to allow more time for voters to go through the budget and all the warrant articles to better get answers to their questions while not feeling as rushed.

I will propose that Swansea, like many other towns, invest in a digital voting system with a hand-held device given to every voter and do away with the circa 1862 voice and paper ballet votes. For each article the resident will simply press YES or NO and the results displayed on a large screen for all to see instantly. This method will shave so much time off meetings just in the hand tallying of votes. I believe digital voting better respects a voter’s time and will encourage more people to participate.

As Spring breaks, Election Day is right around the corner (April 14!). It has been a great pleasure for me to meet residents and to gather with family and friends to discuss our hopes for Swansea.

I have given a lot of thought to what my priorities will be as Selectman and I know that many of you agree.
* Increase accountability and transparency on the Select Board
* Open ROWs and increase access to our waterfront
* Create a transfer station, in Swansea or with a neighboring town
* Preserve our town’s history and promote responsible development
* Make Swansea more business friendly
* Cut wasteful spending
* Make our town government more accessible to residents: Saturday voting and Town
Meetings, recordings and/or live remote access to all Boards and Committees

I’m very much looking forward to the Meet the Candidates night (April 3!), to have the opportunity to answer any questions about my thoughts and plans for Swansea.

Hope to see you there! I appreciate your support. Please like and share this post.
