‘Douglas County committee, sheriff spar over Flock cameras’ by Shelley Nelson

“DOUGLAS COUNTY — After entering into an agreement with Flock Safety in January, the sheriff acknowledges the cameras were present in Douglas County. Tensions ran high as members of the Public Safety Committee tried to get answers Aug. 27 about the sheriff’s use of Flock Safety’s stationary cameras over the summer.

In June, members of the Administration Committee and Executive Committee had said they wouldn’t fund Flock cameras when they approved funding for squad and body cameras for the sheriff’s office. But almost six months before that meeting, the sheriff had already signed an agreement with Flock Safety for a demonstration of the company’s automated license plate readers.”

The current US policy of withdrawing Temporary Protection Status for people from Afghanistan, Cameroon, El Salvador, Ethiopia, Haiti, South Sudan, Syria, Ukraine and Venezuela, only means any of our students from these countries will now may be in a dire financial situation. The TPS allowed students from these countries to work outside of the school and use the money to fund their education. Its suspension means these students can only work on their campus and there is a 20 hour limit.

These weekly No ICE, No War, No Fascism protests happen every Tuesday from 4:30-6pm at the corner of Mesaba Ave, Central Entrance & Rice Lake Road in Duluth. They were initiated by Good Trouble Indivisible, but everyone is welcome. This is one of the busiest intersections in the Twin Ports and they get a great response from passing motorists. If you're free Tuesday evenings, stop by and join in!
