Student/Partner Alliance supports inner city high school students in New Jersey with private school tuition assistance and mentoring to increase their chances for college admission and scholarships, and to ultimately lead successful and productive lives.

What Does It Mean to Be a S/PA Sponsor?

A Sponsor helps make a student’s four-year educational journey possible by providing $3,500 per year toward their scholarship.

Unlike a Partner, a Sponsor does not take on a mentoring commitment, but Sponsors are welcome to attend S/PA events and meet the student they are supporting.

There are many ways to invest in a S/PA student’s future. And for those who want to build a deeper, personal connection, becoming a Mentor offers the opportunity to be there for a student through four important years of learning and growing.

What Does It Mean to Be a Partner?

A Partner makes a four-year commitment to a S/PA student’s education and journey.
Partners provide $3,500 per year toward tuition and serve as the student’s Mentor throughout high school. That means investing in both their education and their growth, while building a relationship that can last well beyond the classroom.

It’s a meaningful way to show up for a young person, year after year.

And you don't have to become a Partner to make a difference.

If the mentoring side of S/PA speaks to you, becoming a Mentor is another powerful way to invest your time, guidance, and encouragement in a student’s future.

One Student. Four Years. A Future of Possibilities.

At S/PA, we believe that a student’s opportunity for a quality education shouldn't be limited to a single year.

Our scholarship provides tuition assistance throughout a student’s four years of high school, giving them the opportunity to attend a college-preparatory private school and focus on learning, growing, and preparing for what comes next.

But S/PA is about more than tuition.

Alongside their scholarship, students have the support of a Mentor and an entire community invested in their success.

Four years of education. Four years of mentorship. Four years of opportunity.

That’s the S/PA difference.

What Does It Mean to Be a Mentor?

Being a S/PA Mentor means showing up for one student, year after year.

It means being there to listen, encourage, offer advice, celebrate successes, and help navigate the challenges that come with high school and preparing for the future.

For a Mentee, having a steady adult in their corner can make a lasting difference.

For a Mentor, it is the opportunity to watch a young person grow, gain confidence, discover their strengths, and take steps toward their future.

It’s a four-year relationship built on trust, encouragement, and the belief that every student has the potential to succeed.

They're beginning a four-year journey filled with new classrooms, new experiences, new challenges, and new opportunities.

And they won't be making that journey alone.

Our Story: How S/PA Began

Student/Partner Alliance began with one person believing that access to a strong, college-preparatory education could open doors for students.

In the late 1980s, Tom Cash provided tuition assistance to 10 students in Jersey City to attend St. Mary’s High School. He recognized that students attending quality college-preparatory schools in their own communities were better prepared for college admission and scholarships.

As friends and business partners learned about Tom’s efforts, they wanted to help too, adding both tuition support and mentoring to the vision.

Student/Partner Alliance was formally incorporated in 1993. Since then, S/PA has provided scholarship and mentoring support to more than 2,500 students from low-income communities.

What began with 10 students grew into a community with a simple, powerful belief: when you open the door to opportunity, you can help change the course of a young person’s future.

Back-to-school season is happening!

The halls will soon be filled with the excitement of a new school year as our five S/PA partner schools prepare to welcome students back: St. Benedict’s Prep, St. Vincent Academy, St. Dominic Academy, Hudson Catholic, and Roselle Catholic.

To all of our S/PA students, we’re wishing you calm hearts, focused minds, and a readiness to begin your next year of learning and growing. We hope you start the year knowing that an entire community is cheering you on.

As we begin the new school year, there are three ways you can support a S/PA student:

Become a Mentor: Build a four-year relationship with a student through guidance and encouragement.

Become a Partner: Provide $3,500 per year toward a student’s tuition and mentor them throughout high school.

Become a Sponsor: Provide $3,500 per year toward a student’s four-year scholarship, without a mentoring commitment.

Bonus: A general donation, whether one-time or ongoing, is another meaningful way to support S/PA students.

Can't commit to Mentoring? Please share with somone who would be interested, OR become a Partner or Sponsor instead.

A Partner commits $3,500 per year for four years and also mentors their student. A Sponsor commits the same; no mentoring or ongoing contact required. 100% of contributions go toward tuition.
