PSAT/NMSQT Information for 8th Grade Families
We encourage our 8th grade families to consider registering their student for the PSAT/NMSQT, which will be administered online during the school day on Thursday, October 15, 2026.

The PSAT/NMSQT is a valuable opportunity for students to become familiar with the types of questions and testing experience they may encounter on the SAT in high school. It is also the only assessment accepted for South Carolina Junior Scholar eligibility. Students who earn a qualifying score of 550 or higher in Evidence-Based Reading and Writing OR 530 or higher in Math may be recognized as South Carolina Junior Scholars. Taking the PSAT does not guarantee Junior Scholar recognition.

Important Registration Information:
Cost: $16.00 for students not selected for district payment
District Payment: Some students will have their PSAT fee paid by the district based on their SC Ready scores from last year. Students who qualify will be notified.
Permission & Payment Deadline: Wednesday, September 9, 2026
Permission Forms: Permission forms will be sent home in Friday Folders.
Registration Fee: https://bcsdschools.schoolcashonline.com/

Berkeley County's Gifted and Talented Arts Program is available to students of Berkeley County Public Schools between the 4th and 12th grade who have auditioned and are identified as gifted/talented in dance, music, theatre, and visual arts. Once identified, students may attend seven Saturday STEP opportunities at a school throughout the district during the school year and a two-week summer program. Sixth through eighth grade STEP students may also attend Marrington Middle School of the Arts.

To qualify for STEP, students must either audition before a jury composed of fine arts professionals (theatre, music, and dance) or must complete on-site visual arts assignments. In addition, students are given tests that are indicators of potential in the various art disciplines. The jury seeks to identify students with outstanding potential in the arts.
