Hidden Territory Farm

Hidden Territory Farm Giving Nature a Home Hidden Territory Farm is a private, 31-acre wildlife sanctuary in Sugar Land, Texas.

My husband and I purchased the property in 2003 and started working to restore the land in order to better support our local wildlife. After several false starts, we are now restoring 8 acres to native prairie, have created a healthy, thriving pond that supplies our wildlife with a constant water source and serves as a turtle rescue pond, installed nine bluebird boxes that have supported approxima

tely 10 clutches of baby bluebirds the past two years, planted native shrubs and trees around the property to help support our wildlife and provide supplemental forage for our resident deer herd. We are proud to announce that in June, 2025, we were recognized as a Texas by Nature Certified Project!

We've been hearing both Barred and Great Horned Owls on the property. We hosted two Master Naturalist bird hikes on our property this spring and were fortunate to see this pair of Great Horned Owls. Thanks to Hoiman Low for these great pictures of the pair.

Black Vulture baby update - here they are on April 13, 2026. I may be adding too much into this, but it appears that the larger sibling keeps shielding the smaller sibling. So precious!

Success – the Black Vultures hatched! Look them up in Webster’s Dictionary under “so ugly they’re cute”! These guys really are precious in a way that’s hard to describe.

What do you get when you leave an old building structure on your land because it's part of the property's history and it's cool?
If you're lucky, you get a Black Vulture's nesting site!🙂

Spring has already sprung out at HTF. We have several microclimates out here and the bluebonnets that are in the warmer area protected by the house that are growing in the decomposed granite sidewalk are in full bloom. Only a few of the bluebonnets in the pasture are beginning to bloom.

The rut began in earnest around Mid-December. We have an over-population of deer in the neighborhood but since we're surrounded by houses, there's not much we can do to reduce the herd. However, we have a lot of hunting friends who have volunteered to help! 🙂

We have a new coyote on the property. We had a resident pair last year but they both had severe cases of mange, and the summer was really hard on them. This gorgeous young coyote showed up around November, and I haven't seen the older couple around for months. Sometimes, nature is really harsh.

I can't believe it's been so long since I've posted an update! Time Flies! There's a lot happening out here as the season's change. However, Edgar the Egret is a constant fixture at our pond. I count on him to show up at least five times a week.

We have Bumbles!!! American Bumble Bees that is! David noticed this hive while he was out mowing the field. Thanks to years of no pesticides and working to replant native flowers and grasses (Thanks Wildlife Habitat Federation - WHF) it looks like we are creating a better, more diverse habitat for our native species. Bumbles are in rapid decline, and we are proud to help them out by giving them a safe and productive home space.
