While it may be April Fool’s Day, distracted driving is no joke!

Today kicks off distracted driving awareness month. There will be extra patrols on the streets all month long looking for distracted drivers. Minnesota State Statute #169.475 specifically covers cell phone use while operating a vehicle.

Let’s all do our part to make the roads a safer place by leaving our phones down and concentrating on driving!

The MN Department of Minnesota Department of Corrections will be conducting a tactical training session at the Stillwater Prison on Tuesday March 17th. This training may include prison employees in tactical gear outside of the prison. There may also be sounds of blank fire rounds heard near the site. The Bayport Police Department - MN and Washington County Sheriff's Office is aware of the training.

Before heading out on the river this weekend, take a look at this safety reminder from the King Plant!

This weekend, the Allen S. King plant in Oak Park Heights, MN will be operating. The plant’s operations may affect ice conditions on the St. Croix River starting on Saturday. The plant cycles river water for its operations. When the warmed water returns to the river, this can affect ice conditions during winter months, while creating a beneficial environment for fish and open-water anglers.

Before operations, our plant staff will go onto the river to inform ice anglers in the affected area. We are also communicating with local cities and law enforcement. We encourage anyone on the ice to always exercise caution, as no ice is 100% safe to cross.

It was a busy weekend filled with holiday cheer! Saturday morning Sgt. Vierling and Officer Rodriguez headed to Walmart in Woodbury for Shop with a Cop in partnership with the National Latino Peace Officers Association.

Saturday afternoon, several officers had the opportunity to help with the annual Holiday Blessings event at Watermark Church. A special thank you to Pastor Jarvis, the congregation, and all of the local businesses that donate to make this event possible. We are grateful to be a part of it!

Finally, Sunday evening Officer Gower and Sgt. Fahrendorff headed out to Sam’s Christmas Village in Somerset, WI for Hometown Hero Holiday Night. This event was dedicated to bringing together military members, veterans, first responders and their families! Despite the cold weather, we enjoyed the amazing light displays together 🎄

Over the last two nights our Officers had the opportunity to participate in Shop with a Cop, along with the Washington County Sheriff’s Office. We had a great time shopping with the kids and helping them prepare for the holiday season with their families!

A special thanks to the Oak Park Heights Walmart, Creative Homes and Pizza Man for helping make these two evenings special for everyone involved.
