2015-2016 Fact Sheet

Who We Are
The Stillwater Native American Parent Advisory Committee works collaboratively with representatives of the Stillwater Area School District toward better outcomes for all self-identified American Indian students. Provision of an Indian Education Parent Advisory Committee in each Minnesota school district is requ

ired by Minnesota Statutes, Sec. 124D.78. What We Do
Our district’s Native American Parent Advisory Committee has developed a plan submitted to the Minnesota Department of Education, which includes the following goals:

identify American Indian student achievement and areas of need, connect American Indian families within the district, and network with and research other American Indian Education programs in the state. develop ongoing programs for American Indian students to learn and practice culturally significant traditions and create mentorships within the Native community. foster positive self identity in American Indian students and enhance knowledge of culture in broader school communities. In order to achieve these goals, the Parent Advisory Committee will work with representatives of Stillwater Area Public Schools on the following strategies:

To best understand areas of student achievement and need for American Indian students in Stillwater Area Public Schools, we must perform data analysis in the areas of student attendance, graduation rates, grade point averages, and standardized test scores of self identified American Indian students. To develop and enhance students’ cultural identity and enhance knowledge of culture in broader school communities, the Parent Committee will:
bring visiting artists/experts/elders to work with American Indian students during the regular monthly parent committee meetings and with families of American Indian students one additional time each month. support American Indian students to attend culturally significant education opportunities and make such opportunities available to a larger range of students in Stillwater Area Public Schools. support district staff to attend American Indian workshops or training and bring information back to their peers. Hi from The Lacek Group! 👋 We’re a Twin Cities-based marketing agency with a focus on both exceptional creative work and the analytics behind great marketing — and we want more students to be able to pursue rewarding careers in this field.

That’s why, for the fourth year, The Lacek Group is proud to offer its scholarship program: Two $5,000 scholarships will be awarded to two BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) students, one each to a high school senior and a college student.

Recipients must pursue an area of study (marketing/advertising, computer programming, creative arts, data/statistics, finance, or communications) that could lead to a marketing career. Recipients must reside in MN but may attend college or an accredited arts or technical college in MN or WI.

Look how nice our winter count looks in the media center in the high school! This was a joint NAPAC project from years ago and our goal was to have it be displayed throughout the district. Stop by and see it if you can and learn about the thirteen moons on turtle’s back.

We had a great time at DaVinci Fest yesterday! Thanks to everyone who stopped by.
