Thank you to Eric Whipple and Cerro Gordo County Emergency Management for providing this valuable training.

πŸ”‹ Deep Creek, Is Your Gear Charging Safely?
At Deep Creek Volunteer Fire Company Inc., we’ve seen more e-bikes, golf carts, and high-powered tools in our neighborhood lately. While this tech is great for enjoying the lake and getting work done, the lithium-ion batteries that power them can be dangerous if they aren't handled with care.

These batteries store a massive amount of energy. If they are damaged or charged incorrectly, they can lead to intense fires that are very difficult to extinguish.

Keep your home and family safe by following these "Power Rules":

Stick to the Original: Only use the charger that came with your device. Cheap aftermarket chargers are a leading cause of battery failure.

The "Once Over" Inspection: Before you plug in, check for dents, cracks, or swelling. If it looks damaged, NEVER charge it.

Don't Overdo It: Unplug your devices once they hit 100%. Leaving them on the charger indefinitely can cause heat buildup.

Location Matters: Store and charge your gear in a cool, dry area away from direct sunlight or flammable materials.

πŸ‘‡ WE WANT TO HEAR FROM YOU!
We are committed to keeping our community safe, but we need your help.

Do you have a dedicated "charging station" in your garage?

Have you checked your e-bike or tool batteries lately for wear and tear?

Drop a comment below and let us know how you stay fire-safe with your tech! Your tips might help a neighbor prevent a disaster.
