I am so happy to announce that my mom and I are members of a new organization in town called Dementia Friendly Sterling, Illinois, Illinois through the CGH Health Foundation. We have created an action team for the Dementia Friendly Community Initiative. Our goal is to create an informed community that accepts and is inclusive of all individuals living with dementia, so that they feel safe and understood when navigating within their community. The Dementia Friendly Sterling Action Team (DFSAT), initiated by Beth Sterk, CGH Dementia Navigator and Dementia Champions; Teri Shaw, Whiteside County Senior Center and Sami Wiggins, Castor Home Health Solutions. The action team includes local government, law enforcement, senior center, NIAAA, University of IL Extension, the local Chamber, Alzheimer’s Association, along with healthcare representatives and people living with Dementia and their Care Partner. We have been working closely with Susan Frick, RUSH University, and the IL Cognitive Resource Network, so that individuals living with dementia can thrive in our inclusive community of Sterling, IL.
